Video Game Reviews of Chessmaster: Grandmaster EditionCustomer Review: STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL Summary: 5 StarsThis is the only Chess video game I have found that has a step by step tutorial for beginner, intermediate and advanced players. It is a real treasure.
As a beginner, right now I am learning about "Defense"--how to eliminate first the defender of the important piece you are planning to capture.
Customer Review: Not the best choice for a chess software Summary: 2 StarsWhen I bought this software I was very excited and I thought it was going to be really cool. But my experience got more and more displeasing and now I don't really play it much at all.
I think the worst part of it all is the internet gaming. The box came with a key that never worked, I complained, and all that the customer support personnel could do was tell me that I was entering the code wrong. Believe me, I entered the code 10,000 different times, I couldn't have it wrong. Then I joined a forum and I noticed that many other people had the same problem and they didn't get it solved either.
Some of the boards are kind of cool, but I always felt the software to be a little hard, not very friendly at all.
I liked the training part, though. The advises are very cool and I did learn some strategy and stuff.
Overall, it's not terrible, but I am sure there are many better softwares around.
Customer Review: Chessmaster: GM Edition Summary: 5 StarsVery good program for beginners and intermediate chessplayers. I can't write for more advanced players. I teach the game to grade school children and I use the academy sessions for lessons. The cd was delivered promptly and in excellent condition.
Customer Review: Nice program when the price is right. Summary: 4 StarsIn short, this is reasonably strong chess engine with a lot of bells and whistles to make it entertaining. I do like some of the puzzles but most of the extras are aimed at kids in my opinion. And if you are buying a chess program for a child, this is the one to get.
My only criticism is the price. I don't what has changed since I bought this program a few months ago, but the price has almost tripled (I got it for $12). Maybe it is for the holiday season? At any rate, if the price comes back down, this is an very good deal. If it doesn't, get one of the Fritz programs, which at the moment are going for $17-$20.
Customer Review: Great Learning and Challenges Summary: 5 StarsIf you want to advance your chess skills; this is a great buy to do it. There is no other chess game out there that can give you the ability to advance your skills as this game does. This games animation is very good, and the audio affects for some of the animated chess pieces, it will absolutely make you laugh. Makes the learning fun. Also, has great abilities to play online with players of any level.
