Video Game Reviews of The Scruffs [Game Download]Customer Review: unusually cute hidden object game, not rec. for hearing or visually impaired Summary: 5 StarsI've really enjoyed "The Scruffs" with their European (Australian?) accents and the dog hint mechanism, and the hidden objects aren't always easy to find. I found the hints to be plentiful enough for the most part.
I really can't, however, recommend it for use by people with significantly impaired hearing or vision. Vision isn't an unusual exclusion for a HOG, but the game also relies on significant audio cues, such as the barking dog and rattling objects for hints. I found it necessary, if enjoyable, to turn the speakers on when playing.
Customer Review: Fun game even when it makes your brain hurt Summary: 4 StarsPicked this up during a freebie promotion and it was a good choice. Cartoon graphics and catchy (albeit repetitive) music surround a basic story of grandpa losing some important items in different rooms of a horribly messy home. From there you're tasked with finding a list of items in various rooms which then unlocks a standard jigsaw puzzle (not sure how that fits in with the story). Once you solve the jigsaw you are once again returned to the rooms you were in to find the one prominent item in the jigsaw puzzle. Once it's found you're on to the next level. There's another minigame called Scribbles hidden within. As you find family photos, the young kids pop up and invite you to point out the different doodles they draw on the photo. Find 15 or more without picking one you already chose and you'll get a gold star. Get a gold star on all the photos and you'll be let in on an interesting secret of theirs.
Unfortunately the following levels are more of the same so the game does get repetitive. As you can gather, it's a hide-and-seek game like Where's Waldo or something to that effect. It's also rather European in both the voice acting and the game's dry wit. I also felt the developers took the easy route in later levels by hiding items behind other objects or giving them odd colors that would blend into a surrounding area rather than building the object into another as done in the early levels. Fortunately you can enlist the services of the family pet, Scruffy, to help you find difficult items. While I did complete the game in a few days, I was more or less doing it only so I could see the ending (wasn't disappointed).
Rather than go it alone, it's actually more fun to invite others, especially kids, to help you find items and complete each level. It's also non-violent and no naughty words so very young children can join in. Massages the brain good too. Recommended.
Customer Review: Great family game Summary: 5 StarsThis is a pretty basic hunt and find game. You get a list of items and you have to find them within a beautifully drawn room. Occasionally you will be able to play a mini-game where you have to find as many changes a child has drawn onto a photo that you can.
My wife and I play this with our six year old and we all enjoy it immensely. My two year old likes to watch us play and repeats the words we say when one of us finds an item. So it is also helping to build her vocabulary.
Customer Review: Fun for kids or adults Summary: 5 StarsI tried this because it was a free download, but I definitely think it's worth the few dollars it normally costs. I'm not one to spend a lot of time playing computer games, but this one hooked me very quickly, and I found myself searching for items whenever I had a free minute at home. It reminds me of the "I Spy" books, just more fun. It was definitely challenging, but if you really get stuck, simply give the dog a bone and he helps you find an item.
My 8 year old son loves I Spy books, and wanted to try this game. He found it difficult, and needed help, but enjoyed it.
I was able to complete the game in less than a week.
I use Windows XP, and have not had any problems with it. You can choose a "timed" mode, or a "relaxed" mode that gives you more than enough time. Both modes are fun. I did need to brighten the contrast on my screen a little, since some scenes are a bit dark, making items harder to find, but that didn't bother me.
I definitely recommend.
Customer Review: Great Game! Summary: 4 StarsSimilar to I Spy, "Scruffs" is a fun and well thought game. It is one of the 3 free downloadable games from Amazon. The graphics is pretty. If you are wondering what the the title is all about, it is the name of the family dog. He gives you a clue when you get stuck in exchange for a bone. The bones are found on the puzzle itself. There is one hidden bone for every picture puzzle. If you think finding the things on the list is easy; think again. It is very challenging. My 9 year old son and I love it. He learned a lot of new vocabulary by just playing with this game.
Dad is broke. And so the goal of the game is to find all grandpa's treasures that are hidden in the pictures. Find them or else; they will loose the house.
There are three types of activities: Finding the things, a memory game, and a jigsaw puzzle (instead of regular jigsaw, the pieces are like torn picture pieces at random shapes).
Using a Windows XP machine, I did not encounter any problem downloading or installing the game.
