Video Game Reviews of Medieval II Total WarCustomer Review: Great potential Summary: 4 StarsYou could play this game for months. Just one campaign, going for complete conquest would take a very long time.
The concept is great, but there are many annoying things in the end product. Battle AI is frustrating because your own people don't do what you want, even if morale is good. Map or turn AI can be frustrating too. I won't even think about being England again. Being a Catholic country results in way too many problems with the Pope. Most frustrating is trying to expand territory within the Catholic realm. Just when you are about to take a new city, the Pope threatens to excommunicate you. Then while you wait for that to expire, that nation builds up it's forces and it becomes a very tough fight. And Inquistors are just crazy. If you get one in your region, they kill everyone, including your king and priests that have been doing well against heretics. This seemed way to extreme in terms of frequency.
I avoided this by picking the Moors. Also frustrating are heretics and traitors. Frequency increases as your empire grows. It's part of the game, but I'd be happier playing it if at least some of these things weren't or at least were less severe.
There's still lots of fun to be had if you like strategy games.
Customer Review: Errors, errors and more errors Summary: 1 StarsI have had errors on installing, errors on playing the campian maps and errors in battle maps. I have installed the "patches" and have the expansion pack as well...this game could have been great. I have spent a total of 20 hrs tying to fix it and it is is buggy and unplayable for any length of time. After installing new chip set drivers, new grafix card drivers and new sound card drivers, I am still 50 dollars poorer and pissed off. Do yourself a favor and dont bother buying this game. I have a top of the line gaming cpu btw...I wish I could rate it lower than one star...
Customer Review: DVD rom disc 2 install trouble Summary: 1 StarsI am giving this game one star in the hopes that I will eventually get to play it. I have a cutting edge PC, but DVD disc 2 of Medieval 2 will not install. Upon putting disc 2 into the dvd drive, I get a message that a certain file cannot be found. The only way out of this installation cul-de-sac is to cancel the installation. Great job, Sega!!! I should take the time to mention that no other games that I've purchased have had ANY installation problems. I've looked online, and have seen that others have had this same problem, yet nobody seems to have any idea how to get around it. Of course, on the games' official homepage, there is no mention of any installation problem. Anybody out there know how to solve this bug?
Customer Review: Get it get it get it. Summary: 5 StarsIve owned all the total war games and have loved playing them all. They take months to play out a campaign even giving them 5 hours a day (Ive never had to play on-line). Battle sim rather than RTS comes to mind when i think of total war games. If nothing else check out utube for game plays by attila
Medieval 2's graphics are completely stunning right down to the flowers in the fields. Diplomacy is a bit tricky and thats my only negative. I think the battles are a little easy for me to win but the campaigns overall are very challenging especially if you cant ally. If you liked Medieval 1 definitely buy this game. Unlike other reviews have said I would say it has many improvements on version 1 like battlefield commands and grouping is far more intuitive and playable in ver 2. The campaign map has many different 1st time additions like creating groups of units from a castle rather than just 1 per turn.
Finally make sure your machine matches the recommended speed requirements. If your machine is low power then check out Rome Total War and be sure to get the gold edition which has better graphics.
Customer Review: Great game Summary: 5 StarsThis is a great game! Well thought out to start. Things did tend to get little messy when you start to take over more lands. REALLY wish you could set a staging point to build ur new soldiers
