Video Game Reviews of Guild Wars: Eye Of The North - Expansion PackCustomer Review: A good expansion pack, but a little short Summary: 4 StarsThis is the only true expansion pack of the Guild Wars series, in that it doesn't stand alone -- you need to have at least one of the three "campaigns" (Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall) in order to play it.
Eye of the North adds a large map area filled with high-level monsters, challenging dungeons, and a number of quests. Of course, there are new skills and titles to acquire, too, along with a number of new heroes (the NPC allies first developed in Nightfall).
The story, about an ancient menace from the depths, felt a little weaker than the main games' storylines, but it's serviceable. Unfortunately, it's also rather short compared to any of the campaigns. It's pretty quick to complete (if you can deal with the difficulty). The numerous dungeons add a bit more play time, though.
Considering there's no subscription fee, it's a pretty reasonable amount of new content for the price -- but I'd get the base campaigns first.
Customer Review: GWEN Is about as good as the others Summary: 4 StarsI own all of the Guild Wars collection at the moment and have to say, they are all pretty good. However, if I had to pick a least favorite GWEN would be it. GWEN is technically an "expansion" upon prophecies since it incorporates unused parts of the original map. However it has a very separate storyline that integrates very well with the Prophecies storyline that will make you say "oh so that's what happened to those characters". Because this is an expansion you do have to own at least one of the other campaigns to install this one. Anyway, I really liked this expansion mainly because of the new heroes, and the additional title track skills you can acquire. I'm tired of typing so here comes the breakdown in pros and cons:
Pros
-New title track skills (like Ursan)
-Awesome new heroes
-New items and consumables
-In my opinion the scenery and environments are better in this
Cons
-I am not not not a fan of the dungeons. I've always been kind of bummed by Guild wars linear(ness) do to impassably terrains and the lack of jumping ability, and the dungeons restrict your options of path choice even more. Dungeon mission just seem to drag on because of this.
-Some of the mission are just down right impossible...with or without real people as teammates.
-The titles take a lot of time in game play to advance. More time than I can dedicate to the game.
All in all the game is fun. But way less for the casual player than the other three campaigns. I do think this expansion is worthwhile, but if someone were to ask me in what order to buy all 4 of the series, I would say any order as long as this is the last one.
Customer Review: Not for casual gamers Summary: 3 StarsI'm not a hard core gamer and when I play an RPG I like to explore and do quests without having to die a million times and ended up failing.
This game, although graphically decent looking, is impossibly hard that it always left me cursing and frustrated. Playing a game is supposed to have fun but this one leaves me angry. I wished the developer could have put an option like any other normal RPG games where players could choose "Easy", "Normal" or "Expert" mode.
