Description of Japanese Chess: The Game of Shogi
One of the greatest strategy games in the world, Japanese Chess rarely finishes as a draw (less than one in a hundred games). Since captured enemy pieces can be dropped back into the game on your own side, the endgame is not a slow tedious process as in common chess, but a dash for checkmate! Pieces can drop into empty squares near to the enemy Shogun, and the essence of the game is to spot such mating attacks. Many strong chess players have found Shogi to be a great game to play. Although played by millions in Japan, so far it is not so well known outside Asia. The CD includes popular variants Tori Shogi (also called Bird Shogi with specially designed graphics), Mini, Micro and Judkin's Shogi. Pieces in each variant can be viewed as Traditional Japanese calligraphy, Western Learner sets, or its special easy-to-learn designs.
