Video Game Reviews of Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe DVDCustomer Review: The missions are alot of fun! Summary: 4 StarsThis version of Microsoft Flight Simulator is best for mission use. I came from using FS2004 which was great for flying complex jets cross country. With FSX, the frame rates often grind to a halt when using complex aircraft at large airports (using a computer with quad core processor @ 3.46 ghz and dual 8800gtx cards). It's not a very well optimized program even with the service packs. However, I found the missions in FSX are a breath of fresh air which added a great new angle to flight simming. They start off simple and get progressively harder. Missions include everything from cargo trips to rescue missions to scenic flights around Hawaii, and glider missions. The mission variety is awesome- it's worth a purchase for that alone. I've also added on FSX Acceleration, Aerosoft Flight Tales, and Rescue Pilot, all of which add fun new missions. In general, the missions run smoothly provided the graphic/scenery options are not maxed out. It does however take a powerful computer to enjoy this game fully. I originally played it on my old Pentium 3.0 and had to turn down nearly all graphic options. Since getting a quad core pc, the missions are night and day difference, now I can enjoy the scenery during flight.
Customer Review: Not as good as expected Summary: 2 StarsThis game was not at all what we expected. I think in a flying game if you hit something your plane should at least crash. In this game the plane will bounce off of the ground if you hit it. If you fly into the water, your plane should crash. I guess it is just not what I was looking for when I bought it.
Customer Review: Great flight sim Summary: 5 StarsInitially I had trouble installing until I found that my DVD drive was failing. Once installed and patched with the latest update, it is working great. It has some great improvements over FS 2004. I have only crashed once while trying to make my landing on the bridge going out between Coronado Island from San Diego. lol
Great fun and learning sim. The Deluxe version costs a little more but has much more content.
Customer Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 StarsI wasn't sure what to expect when I first got this program, but was pleasantly surprised by the detail in the soft ware. I'm not a pilot and enjoy the tutorials with interactive information. I still can't fly a helicopter! The minuses are types of aircraft available and texture of landscape, but these are easily remedied by free updates from their website and links to after market add-ons.
Warning!!! This program requires a lot of space and you may find yourself wanting to go and try the real thing!
I now have a greater appreciation for what aircrews go through to fly aircraft.
Have fun flying!
Customer Review: Unprofessional Summary: 2 StarsThe graphics are average. The actual flying in unrealistic. No airplane that I have found in this program will capture the localizer or glideslope on an ILS flight. The switching back and forth between approach and center then back to approach and so on and so on is not how it happens in real life. Although this version boasts some new airplanes it took away a few of the good ones like the Cessna 182. This program needs some work from a real pilot and air traffic controller if it is ever to be realistic.
