Video Game Reviews of Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration ExpansionCustomer Review: Flight Sim X Acceleration Satisfactory Add-on Summary: 4 StarsPROS: Great new features. Cool new adventures to test your flying abilities. Reworked/different ATC options for specific missions. Still supports full DX10 while looking sweet on DX9 systems.
CONS: Still requires substantial horsepower from CPU/GPU/RAM. Requires an additional 1.5 GB hard drive space bringing the total to 16.6 GB, expected with a few add ons to scenery and some aircraft. Not a big deal for a flight simulator. Bigger the better, right? The F-18 piloting is difficult/glitchy at times, maybe just my comp.
Overall, it is worth the price. It has cool missions and new aircraft to play with. The racing is fun as well. If you really enjoy FSX, then get the expansion.
Customer Review: Very Enjoyable Summary: 5 StarsFrom reading the other reviews, I was sort of not wanting to try this but I am SO glad I did!
First (the way all PC game reviews should start), running this on a Dell Inspiron Laptop 1720 w/2.2ghz Centrino Duo, 256 mb 8600Gt, 2g RAM (yes shortly going to 4), Vista Premium.
Could not be more delighted. Of course, you have to tweak the settings to optimize to your system. Mine, I like very high detail on the plane and scenery, but med low on the clouds and traffic. This setup, I cap my frames at 35, and it rarely dips below. Sometimes in a highly congested areas it will dip to mid 20's. By the way, as I will be doing soon for a gaming rig, you must have some decent hardware to run this. However, if you see my specs, it not top of the line...well, 7 months ago it was close :)
With all the new missions, this is a cant pass up deal. Especially when you luck into very reduced price on Amazon! low twelves! yes, you read that correctly!
Customer Review: Worth the discount price Summary: 4 StarsI'm not so sure I would have payed $29.95 for this but Amazon had it for $13.17 at the time I bought it. I figured it was worth the risk at that price. I was right. It is well worth $20.
I read all the reviews and the complaints about shoddy coding and the inability to get it to work correctly. I don't know what to say about that. I had no problem. I already had SP2 which it instructed me to uninstall. I was a bit hesitant and made a full backup before I did that. No problems at all. Worked perfectly.
What I like about it:
The three planes are worth the $20 alone. Very nice and lots of fun. There are quite a few new missions which are very fun and interesting. I love the missions in FSX and having more is well worth it to me. One of the features this expansion pack provides is a nitrous oxide boost to the Extra 300. That is great! Now I can get well over 200 knots while boost is engaged!
What I don't like:
There are several new key commands with this expansion pack. For some stupid reason, three of them use the same key commands as existing commands. During installation, you are asked whether you want to install these new commands. Doing so unassigns the original commands that conflict with these new ones! Why can't they simply use key commands that don't conflict? Really stupid! I had to go back to do that by hand and made up new (unused) commands for these new ones so that my keycard didn't need to be changed. Not a big deal really but just unnecessary stupidity there.
I don't know why this pack can't be smart enough to simply recognize that I already have SP2 and just install the rest and not have to install SP2 as well. Just poor programming. Again, not a big deal but I was pretty apprehensive to go into "Add and Remove Programs" and uninstall the game in order to install this thing.
If I had this to do all over again, I would certainly do it at the $13.71 price but I'm not sure I would pay $30 + shipping.
Customer Review: Nice idea. Crashes a lot. I mean - a lot! Summary: 1 StarsGreat value. I mean, 3 new full function aircraft, a bunch of new and interesting missions. But, it crashes. A lot. The more times I ran it, the sooner into the game it would crash. Started out crashing after a half hour or so. Before I uninstalled it, it would crash within 5 minutes. Now, this crash is simply a "power off". So, nothing was ruined. But what good is the game if you can't play it? I have a nice, high end laptop, so hardware isn't the issue. Some small code error, I suppose. Hope Microsoft is working on it because when it works, this is a nice add on. But it doesn't work.
Customer Review: Activation error 8000405 will drive you nuts Summary: 2 StarsTwo days of trying to make it work. I keep getting "WE'RE SORRY, AN UNEXPECTED ERROR OCCURRED WHICH IS PREVENTING PRODUCT ACTIVATION FROM BEING COMPLETED.
ERROR CODE: 1-80004005"
Three Emails to tech support and three phone calls to Microsoft and still no help.
From the hits on Google about problems with the product, many people are having problems with it.
