Customer Review: Fun or all in the anachronic Caribbean Summary: 5 StarsWhile I was a relative newbie to the Monkey Island series (I had only played the 'Curse' demo and a little bit of 'Secret'), I found Escape from Monkey Island to be very enjoyable. I was able to run the game on a generic 3d card with minimal trouble(the only glitch I encountered was being unable to see which action I had selected from the list without hitting 'enter'). Otherwise, the game runs in beautiful 3d graphics, with fluid animation. The keyboard controls are a little strange at first, and a mouse option would have been nice. The game is filled with memorable humor, as many characters return from previous Monkey games(such as Murray the evil skull) and new, equally funny ones(such as Marco de Pollo) are introduced. The game is filled with in-jokes, however, and you may want to save this one until you've played at least Secret of Monkey Island(which seemed to contain the source of many). The humor is clean, so you won't have to worry if you let your kids play. The puzzles are cleverly made(although some can be slightly obscure; Lucre Island comes to mind), and shouldn't be too much of a problem for anyone. The gameplay is varied by the use of minigames, such as Insult Arm Wrestling, and Monkey Kombat. Strangely, LucasArts ships a small walkthrough booklet in each box, which can be often too tempting after racking your brain on a puzzle for an hour. If you want a mind-testing, humorous game you can play in your spare time, you may want to give EFMI a serious look.
Customer Review: Excellent Game Summary: 5 StarsSlight complaints about the controls but I got used to it quickly and dealing with that was worth it.From the galactic bumblings of Roger Wilco to the grog swilling piratey fun of Monkey Island I love adventure games. Unfortunately the general public would rather blast away in mind numbing multi-player games, hit the console games, or play racing games/flight sims (Whats dumber than a flight sim. I hate flight sims) Sierra has cought onto this and they killed their adventure line. Yes, the sequel police finally got the best of Roger Wilco. But LucasArts is the only company where you can find entertaining games that make you think. They may anger you at times but, they make you think. I hope EMI is a huge sucess because that would mean there is going to be a sequel. (crosses fingers) This game is truely for someone who loves adventure games. The voicing is superb. The grapics are excellent. The humor is great. As long as LucasArts puts out adventure games they will be getting my money.
Customer Review: Hasn't got the "magic" of Grim Fandango Summary: 3 StarsI've got mixed feelings about this game. There isn't anything really WRONG about this game but during the whole game I found myself comparing this game with Grim Fandango ---> which I liked better. The graphics of MI4 are pretty good and the voice-acting is even superb but I didn't feel drawn into the game. It misses some kind of "adventure-magic" (people who've played Grim Fandango know what I mean and if you haven't played it go buy it!!!) This is I think the most important feature that an adventure should have and this one lacks it :(
Customer Review: Can't Go Wrong With Monkey Island Summary: 5 StarsI've been following the Monkey Island series since it's debut. Needless to say, I have extreme respect for Lucas Arts and their work. This is a series that I have enjoyed more with each addition to the line. For past Monkey fans, the largest change will be the conversion to the 3D engine. My biggest caveat is the navigation system, it's keyboard only. Having said that, I found it to be usable, yet it is a far cry from the extremely pleasent and functional point and click system of Curse of Monkey Island (Monkey Island 3). Having acknowledged this, the game is up to Monkey Island standards, and immerses you in the satirical world of Guybrush Threepwood, famous pirate. As always, Guybrush blunders his way through the game, with peril nipping at his feet. For Monkey fans and new players alike, this series is already a classic, pick up Lucas Arts' new star.
