Video Game Reviews of Star Wars Republic Commando

Customer Review: Incredibly fun and entertaining but way too short
Summary: 4 Stars

When I first played this game I instantly fell in love with it. As soon as i beat it, the next day i was already starting a new game. The graphics are gorgeous for the game and it was extremely interesting to see the battle through a clones perspective rather than the world as a jedi were super battle droids are dealt with rather easily than with an entire four man squad. The weapon detail is also very good and sound is very nice as well, also all your squadmates are unique and make entertaining comments as you play sometimes commenting on your good shooting or if u hit one of them or u just start shooting into the air. I highly recommend this for star wars or first person shooter fans as it combines two of my favorite aspects, star wars and commando type games. The only drawback is it is much too short.

Customer Review: Fast, furious and fun, but ends abruptly
Summary: 4 Stars

Gameplay is very smooth, and very quick. Environments are dynamic--options for cover and sniping change as battles continue. The game is almost too limited in the options for issuing commands to your Delta squad brethren, but command functions are well implemented and easy to use.

The major drawback of this game, as stated by many other reviews, is how short it is. The game in fact ends very abruptly, almost as if it was rushed to market without the last two or three levels. The ending cut scene insinuates that you will start the next section of the game, and then the credits start rolling. I was disappointed by the ending, it felt almost like I had played half a game.

Lucas arts probably just wants to max out it's income on expansion packs. Profit is alway more important than product quality--right?

Customer Review: excellent but short
Summary: 4 Stars

let me start off by saying i would give this game a 95% overall. graphics are stunning along with the sound effects and soundtrack. the soundtrack makes you feel like you are participating in the movies. the squad based play is phenomenal. commanding your squad is set up with one button commands for everything. the ability to bring members back to life is very useful.
the negative sides to this game is it is so short, it will have you desiring more.

Customer Review: Finnaly a good first persong shooterl.
Summary: 5 Stars

Four words first of all. This game is awsome. (see four words :P) I first heard of this game when my friend bought it and it didn't work on his computer. He gave it to me. This game just blew me away. The graphic were not the greatest but good nonetheless. The AI was (I can't beleive i'm going to say this) amazing. THis is one of the first game that I have played where the enemy has managed to be intelligent enough to outsmart me and surrond me in a battle. And your team mates are witty, sometime sarcastic which is sometimes thankful in a heated situation, and smart. They didn't make one unintillegent move the entire time I played other than getting stuck in a area or something like that. THe only downside of this is the length. I applaude Lucas Arts for finnaly making a good FPS but they need to make it longer. They should make a patch containing more levels or maybe the modding community will make some more maps.

Customer Review: Return of the 1st person shooter
Summary: 4 Stars

I had given up on first person shooter games as being boring and requiring little thought. My mind has been changed by this game. Technically, it's first person plural, because in addition to your own character you have a squad of 3 other commandos that you control.

The AI for the squad is great. I was concerned that trying to control them all would be unwieldy, but I've quickly figured out how to manage them and only rarely do they wander off. They often take the logical action in different situations instead of just running around and shooting. As I've progressed further, there have been several situations that require you to place your squad in strategic spots so that overwhelming enemies can be eliminated. And they have some pretty funny things to say at times.

The game play itself is just plain fun. It is very directed, at times I'd like to wander off to explore other areas with my squad, but the direction is intentional and true to life of combat operations. You can't have soldiers running off wherever they please.

The HUD in the trooper's helmet is great. I bet the DoD is working on something just like that right now.

The only drawbacks to the game are the lack of freedom when accomplishing missions, and the lack of a picture guide concerning what the different grenades look like. After collecting several types, I had to use trial and error to figure out which grenades were which. That was painful. Also, make sure your graphics card can play the game. I spent an afternoon trying to find the right card that would work with it(NVidia GeForce 5500, in case you're curious)

Overall, it's a great game. I've had a lot of fun with it and am looking forward to playing through the rest of the levels than trying it online.
