Video Game Reviews of Star Wars Republic Commando

Customer Review: Hard to find But really fun!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I spend an entire day looking for this game. I called atleast 30 stores and nobody had it. It's not that old either. It was realesed on march 1,2005. So I went on overstock.com and found it. When it arrived I put in in my drive. It did work. Some people say thier's wouldn't work on thier computer. If your having trouble find this game go to overstock.com We'll let's get to the basics. Your the leader of an elite squad. You have control of giving commands to your squad. Fixer ,1140 is the hacker of the team you can order him to open doors for you. Sev another one of your squad member is the hunter. Fearless ready to fight but a little unstable. Lastly "scorh" Delta 62 is the class clown of the squad. You'll hear him say things throughout the game that are pretty funny. But he's best at setting explosives. I was dissapointed that the game was so short only 3 levels. But there are pretty long. Multiplayer is the basics deathmatch, team deathmatch, assualt etc. Although, I love multiplayer games about 97% of the time. I love chatting with other players when your playing online. What I wish they did was give you a set of 3 other cpu's and compete to take the other teams down just like the single player. Anyway here's the pro's and con's.

Pro's
1.Great single player levels
2. awsome squad and enemy AI
3.pretty good multiplayer
4.great weaponary
Con's
1. too short(only 3 levels!)
2. multiplayer is the basic
At some points the game's awsome and sometimes it needs work I totally recommend it. P.s. Better buy I heard stores are starting not to carry this game anymore(check overstock.com before thier all gone!)

Customer Review: An intense, yet short experience that perhaps to its credit leaves you wanting more.
Summary: 4 Stars

Republic Commando represents both some of the best and worst qualities of games based on popular licenses. On the positive side you have a fantastic experience that immerses you in the Star Wars universe in a way that has not been done before in Star Wars games. You play as part of one of the republic commando teams sent in to deal with particularly delicate situations. You are just a number, with the other squad members being elite clones much like yourself. However, this does not mean they are devoid of a personality. Thankfully each of them has their own personality and distinctive voice work, adding some life to your almost constant interaction with them. The graphics are fantastic, with everything from the game menus to the level design showcasing the sleek sense of style that is to be expected from a game that plays like a quick paced Hollywood blockbuster.

You move from mission to mission while the game's linear storyline plays out. Throughout the missions you will direct your squad mates to take defensive positions, storm a room or man a turret among other actions. You will never lose your squad mates as they are an integral part of the story. At worst they will simply take enough damage that they will be indisposed until you or one of your squad mates can provide medical aid.

While the negatives are small they are nonetheless frustrating, for one thing this game should be a lot longer than it is. Just as the gameplay has you hooked the game nears its end, a shame considering that it probably won't get a sequel or expansion. Another frustrating aspect of the game is the heavily scripted nature of the major events that unfold throughout each mission. Essentially this guarantees that there is no replay value whatsoever to this title. This does not detract from it being a game one should experience at least once but it does guarantee that you will probably be reselling this title or waiting a long time before the experience is fresh enough to play through it again.

I am not particularly familiar with the Star Wars universe and at best I feel indifferent towards the license but this is one of those titles worth picking up despite your opinion of the license. If you don't mind a short experience it will arguably be the best First Person Shooter based on the Star Wars license you've played.

Customer Review: The darker side of war
Summary: 4 Stars

To start off, Republic Commando is really good. The graphics are awesome and the enemy AI is great. To give an example, AI units fire around corners and then take cover. That's really cool.

Basically, you have a squad of 4 clones including yourself. (you are the leader.) You command your squad to sabotage, rescue, destroy etc. The command system is really easy. You press 1 button and your clones do your bidding. You can tell them to defend, follow you, attack agressively, and take up certain posts, like making them snipe, throw grenades, launch anti armor guns and so on.

Your weapons. Now, the weapons are cool, but weak. Your main weapon fires off a lot of rounds in a few seconds. And the enemies are way too strong. It takes sooooo many shots to kill certain enemies. But one gun ( kind of like a machine gun ) shoots really fast, and kills enemies in a second. That's my favorite gun. Also, you don't have too many weapons to choose from. But I like the weapon designs.

Each level does not take very long to complete. You fight on 3 different locations: Geonosis, An abandoned republic assault ship, and the Wookie homeword, Kashyyyk. YAY! Wookies! Yes. You get to see wookies fight and throw enemies up in the air. The levels are boring, though, after you've played them for a while. I just like the weapons.

OH! Yes. You can bring back your squad to life again when they get "killed" or incapacitated. That's cool, right? Not really, because it's not realistic from my point of view. But it is still neat that you can revive your teammates. Also when you get "killed" you can command your squad to revive you. Basically, you're not killed until your whole squad is killed.

This game isn't just the run in and shoot type of game. You really have to utilize your squad tactics and create strategies to overrun certain outposts. That is one of my favorites of the game. Really cool.

The enemies are also diverse and unique, not the typical Star Wars characters in the movies. You get to fight Grievous' body guards. That is also neat.

All in all the game is really good besides the weapon and environment faults. I would highly reccomend this game to anyone.

Note: This game requires a lot of space on a computer if you know what I mean. The program might not perform very well (diminished graphics, poor sound quality, etc.) if you don't have the maximum requirements. So don't plan on getting the game if you don't have a powerful computer. Also there are a few glitches, like your squad members getting stuck in certain areas and you can do nothing about it.

Customer Review: review from a 9-year-old kid that has alot of star wars games
Summary: 5 Stars

It is so cool because you can get all these granades. It's like you're every single type of clone at once. But the bad thing is you get a very small health box. You have a squad with you and you can command them to do all this cool stuff, like protect you or guard the area or blow up a wall and more.

Customer Review: Great game overall, but gets repetitive
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm not a star wars or 1st person shooter fan. But the absolutely fantastic graphics and gripping storyline kept me playing for quite a few hours.

Pros:
-Variable missions
-Slightly different in pace/gameplay from other 1st pers. shooters
-Excellent in-depth storyline.

Con:
-missions get repetitive towards the end of each of the 3 stages
-lack in variety of weapons
