Video Game Reviews of Star Wars Republic CommandoCustomer Review: An excellent game, albeit a dark one Summary: 5 StarsYou've seen the glorious, heroic battles of the Star Wars universe in Star Wars: Battlefront 1 and 2. Now imagine those same battles through the eyes of a battle-hardened clone commando. What you get is a darker, more realistic interpretation of the star wars universe.
THE GAMEPLAY
In this game you are the leader of a four-man squad of Republic Commandoes. What this fairly new style of gameplay creates is an experience similar to a stand-alone shooter, while retaining team-based aspects. All-in-all: Excellent.
THE SQUAD
I personally think that your squad is what makes this game so much fun. You are the leader of Delta Squad, an elite team of highly trained clones. Each member of your squad has different colored armor, a different specialty, and a different personality and voice.
The voice-acting is excellent and the dialogue is very witty. It's hilarious to hear your squad bickering about who made more kills. The AI for your squad is one of the best I have seen in a game. They use cover intelligently, and are quick and efficient soldiers. The only problem I've noticed is that occasionally your Squadmates will get into melee fights with super battle droids, who have a much stronger physical attack. Inevitably, this will get your buddy killed. The weapons are varied and useful, and the controls are logical and easy-to-learn. Commanding your squad is surprisingly simple, but leaves a little to be desired. Your commands are: "Search and destroy," which basically means your squad should go on the offensive. "Form up," tells your squad to follow you, and "Hold position," is pretty self-explanatory. Also you can give your squad a number of scenery-dependant commands including an order to snipe from behind an obstacle or to get in a turret.
One neat thing is that when you encounter a locked door, you have the option to either execute a "door breach," which is where you put a detonator on the door, toss a grenade through when it's down, and burst in guns blazing, or do a "door slice," where you quietly slice into the door's computer lock, and hopefully get through without being detected.
List of Squadmates:
Name: Delta 38
Nickname: Boss
Profession: Squad Leader
This is you. The leader of Delta Squad. Slightly cynical, but fiercely loyal to the republic, Delta 38 is an intriguing character to play as. Oh, and he is voiced by Temuera Morrison, the guy who plays Jango Fett.
Name: Delta 40
Nickname: Fixer
Profession: Computer Slicer
Fixer is the good-boy, by-the-book soldier of the group. Retaining the least personality of the four, you can always count on fixer to follow regulations to the letter.
Name: Delta 62
Nickname: Scorch
Profession: Demolitions Expert
The joker of the group, Scorch is always sure to keep you laughing. Favoring the anti-armor gun attachment as is weapon of choice, Scorch loves to blow things up, and will make sure you have fun doing it.
Name: Delta 07
Nickname: Sev
Profession: Sniper
Sev has a very dark sense of humor, which I personally love. Sev is often to be found insulting dead bodies, or bickering with scorch, and his distinctively deep voice can is often the herald of doom for anyone who gets in Delta Squad's way.
Another great thing about this game is the storyline. The plot is intelligent, fast-moving, and as I have already mentioned the voice-acting is top-of-the-line. The most powerful part of the game is the ending scene, which is conveyed with emotion and drama that most movies struggle to achieve.
I would recommend this game to fans of shooters, Star Wars, or both. If you are looking for an exciting sci-fi story to get involved in, then this game is for you.
Customer Review: MOH: Pacific Assualt a la Star Wars with a smart squad Summary: 4 StarsThis isn't just another run and gun game, do that and you are dead, this is a tactical shooter where you have to make the calls by the minute and rather than using your own firepower to stop entire armies, you use that of your squad. Unlike previous squad shooters where you would either have no control or very limited control of your team, this gives you exclusive control over your squad with a simple press of a button. If you ask for covering fire you are going to get it, your team is not going to run in circles yelling out random scripts until they or you get killed, they are going to shoot your ememies. While it can be relatively short, it is worth buying for those who either love Star Wars or just want to have fun blowing waves of droids and aliens to kingdom come.
Customer Review: This game rocks!!! Summary: 5 StarsThis game is the best Star Wars game I've ever played. Sadly there is only 10 hours of gameplay and only 3 levels. But the levels are long. Some parts can be difficult and when your alone you start to miss your squad. Overall if your a Star Wars fan you'll love it and if your not a fan you'll still love it.
This game rocks!
Customer Review: Great cutscenes and gameplay Summary: 5 StarsThe game plays great, scenery and enemies are very well done so if you're into the star wars genre you'll love it. The game is very balanced too, not boringly easy or unplayably hard. The only real problem with the game is you'll wish there were more single player levels. After playing Far Cry which takes some serious time to conquer, it's not brief but it does seem short.
Customer Review: Star Wars Republic Commando Summary: 5 StarsExcellent First Person shooter. If you are a Star Wars fan you can't miss the opertunity to play and own this game!
