Video Game Reviews of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006

Customer Review: A bogey -- just so-so...
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm not sure what EA Sports was shooting for with this game, but it falls a litte short. Swing feel is inconsistent, particularly off the tees, on approach shots and putting.

The backswing in 3-click mode sometimes speeds up much faster for similar shots/clubs/distances, making it difficult to gauge when to click. And some approach shots/putts I'll give it a fair amount of swing and the ball will go 3 feet. Then on the follow up shot, I'll give it a little more juice to compensate, and the ball flies off the green.

And most annoying of all, sometimes when your turn comes to putt, one of the computer-generated players will be standing between you and the cup blocking your view and making it impossible to read the green.

I bought PGA Tour 2006 to learn Pebble Beach prior to playing there later this year, and it's worth it to see the course. However, I can't recommend it for gamers who are looking for consistent play. It's just not ready for prime time.

Customer Review: Great game
Summary: 4 Stars

First, I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. The only ding against it is that it will repeatedly exit to desktop during the start-up process. Sometimes it takes 4-6 attempts before the game actually starts. However, once you're past that minor irritant (about 60-90 secs) the game is absolutely great. I haven't had a golf game in a LONG time and this one is better than I hoped for. Graphics and sounds are awesome. During one "windy" round with my surround speakers I had to look out the window to see if our "real" weather was going to crap! Even the sound of approach shots hitting the green sounds just like you're out on the course. The player development aspect of the game is great, starting out as a hacker and progressively getting better. It's similiar to playing franchise mode on Madden or developing a character in an RPG-type game. The only other issue I have is that my 13-year old son keeps "swiping" it to play on his computer and he's more of an action/FPS type gamer. I've had to inform him that I have "veto" power over use of the game!

WELL DONE WITH A WHOLE NEW SET OF SIDE GAMES AND PLACES.

Customer Review: The best golf game I've played, but. . .
Summary: 4 Stars

I was a Links fan until MS took them over then I never upgraded or had anything more todo with them.

After seeing TW 2006 I had to have it, I loved the game play and the graphics, but I don't know what it sounds like cuz I keep the volume shut off.

Following EA's loading instructions and shutting off all unnecessary programs I just had a terrible time loading the game. It would usually quit loading when disk 2 (media) was inserted. If it made it thru disk 2 it would stop installing on disk 3 (courses).

I did some research on EA'a site and found that you can copy disk 1 (install) and disk 2 (media)to a folder on your hard drive and run Install from that folder. Follow the on screen instructions.

When the install is done you can delete that folder and play the game.

Definatly a klugey way to go but it works.

Customer Review: Worth the money - misleading video card requirement
Summary: 4 Stars

I have only one other PGA Tour-series golf game, if even that. Being a big golfer and hearing debate on whether it is worth the money to upgrade from the 2005 edition, I figured it would be worth it to me.
I was surprised to see the system requirements call for either a ATI Radeon or GeForce chipset. Since I did not have such chipsets on my desktop or laptop, I seriously wondered if I'd need to shed out more $ to get a supported video card just to be able to play the game.
To my delight, I discovered the game works on my integrated Intel 82845-series chipset on my Gateway desktop.
If EA only -guarantees- a game will work with a particular chipset but not necessarily others, they should say this.
Anyway, after being concerned whether the game would work or not and to find it does and works reasonably well on my probably lower-end integrated video card, I'm happy.
I've seen enough of the game so far to be able to agree with many of the comments I saw in the reviews here:
- Graphics are certainly at least decent even at lower detail settings.
- Commentator's comments aren't always accurate. One shot I just hit that was always left of the green (although not a terrible shot) was described as "right on."
