Video Game Reviews of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07Customer Review: No improvement in 07, lot of missing game parts Summary: 2 StarsI got TW PGA06 for a penny and enjoyed it. I jumped on version 07 hoping to get all the bell and whistles of the marketing hype of easports, especially the practice stuff. Well, there is none of that on the PC version. You have to get on e of the console version. And be careful, not all of them got all features. EAsport is very bad at documenting which feature is in which version. 07 as an improvement of 06, I would have hoped to get these features. But not, there nothing new: changed a few textures (I think they were better in 06, but that's a question of taste), more people watching you (need more processing power), new courses, and that's it. Easy money for EA. Do not buy this as an 'upgrade' of 06. There isn't anything new, except for your wallet.
In addition, when you read about it in forums (EAsport included), there are numerous players who experience numerous problems. Stick to version 2006, it works great.
Customer Review: Terrible - worst version yet Summary: 2 StarsI have had a lot of fun with the TW PGA Golf series over the years (since the 2002 version), but it seems like EA Games is taking steps backwards in the past couple of years. The 2007 version is the worst of the bunch. The game itself runs smoothly and is pretty, but that doesn't really matter when the AI is stupid - like taking chip shots in the middle of the fairway 140 yards from the green, repeatedly doing the same failed shot over and over until forced to concede, and standing in the way of other player's shots.
When you set up your player, you have to choose a "home course" which you're pretty much forced to stay on until you get a low enough handicap - but there is no way to change it once selected, other than deleting your character and starting all over. This is not a big deal on easier courses, but EA has always had this thing where they put in one or two "fantasy" courses in the mix which are freaking impossible - and you won't know until you select the course if that's the one you picked. Case in point, the Central Park course (sounds innocuous, right?). This course is ridiculously hard, especially when you start with a new amateur player who can't even hit a driver more than 175 yards. On several of the holes you just have to keep hitting OOB until you concede, then go on from there. The problem is, doing that you will NEVER make it past your first season.
Sometimes I've been assessed an OOB penalty when my ball was clearly in bounds. Other times I've been forced to take drops when my ball is sitting in the fairway. Where's the fun in that?
And talk about frustrating bugs - I just finished an entire yearlong season, and was playing in the final championship 2-rounder before I was advancved to the Pro level, and the game came up and said "Congratulations! You just broke the season record for lowest average score! " Unfortunately, the button didn't work, forcing me to Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill the game from Windows, the result of which was that it "conceded" my second round in the championship. That means that I now have to go play an entire NEW season just to advance! ARRRGH!
If you want mindless golf play, this game might be for you - at a price of maybe $10.00. But for the price EA Games is charging it's a crime. I think I'm about to go back to Links (which I switched from in 2002).
Customer Review: Good clarity Summary: 5 StarsTHis was a gift for my brother and he rarely set it down.
Customer Review: Does Not Work! Summary: 1 StarsWe have never played the game since it freezes the computer everytime we try to run it. Customer support has provided "fixes", but none of them work. Good luck if you choose to purchase this.
Customer Review: Good, but could be better in some obvious areas. Summary: 3 StarsI've been playing it for a little while now, and I have noticed that it is NOT surprising. Nothing will surprise you or WOW you in this game. It's good; it works; will definitely satisfy your desire to play a golf game on your PC, but...
I figured that they would spend a little more time and put some more effort into the stuff that matters instead of additional customizable details for your player's face and whatnot. Who cares? A scar? Whoop-de-do. 4,000 choices of clubs that all play about the same? Dozens of hats? Big deal.
1) We want the Course Architect! The skate board games have had that ability for years, and has become integral with the games. Why would you put it on SOME TW games and not this one?? Seems really cheap of them to leave it off. Are they going to ask us to buy it as an add-on? Good luck.
2) More natural ball movement and bouncing (i.e. when a real golf ball hits concrete it takes of like a rocket, but in the game it bounces and rolls like its in med rough.)
3) Hitting irons off of the carpet is no better than med rough? Since when?
4) The computer-driven golfer can often get stuck in parts of Central Park course. They choose to hit a ball in the rough with a 3W and it goes 3 feet only to have them turn 180 and hit it with a 3I and go 100 feet -- out of bounds. This repeats until the golfer concedes. The out of bounds on the 18th hole of Central Park green is inaccurate and absurd.
5) The mp3 for the creek/brook sounds like a skipping record.
6) When you play against a better golfer, but have them nerfed to 'novice', they will almost always hit the hole and roll over it if they are more than 10 feet away - you're pretty much guaranteed that. Gets annoying after awhile.
7) The people are obstacles, and seem to have some kind of sticky clothing?? Since when does a ball hit by a driver "land" on a guy's shirt? Or sort of stick to him and slide down? They people should have no surface and let the ball fly through them -- (most of the time) they would be moving out of the way during real golf.
8) How 'bout adding a golf cart racing secret code or something fun? I know you want it all serious and whatnot, but those that would like to pimp out a golf cart, jump one off a bunker or whatever could seek out the code. Those that are not into that could be none the wiser and still think it serious.
I'm guessing that the "PGA" in "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07" is what keeps it pretty boring. Oh well, I'll have to look elsewhere for the fun in golf.
