Video Game Reviews of The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2Customer Review: not an avid gamer - but i love this game Summary: 4 StarsThis was my first RTS game in years. I'm not an avid gamer and so it took a couple of years for me to wear out my older RTS games (Warcraft III, C&C:Generals) enough to justify opening the wallet for a new one. Also, I just got a new computer that can finally handle newer games.
In all, I have quite enjoyed the game for the first three weeks and I'm very excited about the future. It seems to combine/include all the best elements from all the RTS games i've played. some don't like it, but I like the fact that you have to upgrade each unit individually. It allows for more strategy and makes the upgraded/experienced battalions/units much better than those that aren't. The hero element is also good (as it was in Warcraft III) but very-well balanced with non-hero units. Heros can do tons of damage, but they will still get destroyed if you send them into battle alone. Also, the experienced hero's have significant advantages so it is well worth your while to build them early and level them up as much/fast as you can.
The resource gathering mechanism is cumbersome, difficult and challenging. Other games allow you bunch all resource gathering in a concentrated area, but this game forces you to sprawl your base if you want to collect resources faster. this is compensated by the fact that resources never run out. All of these things introduce new elements and therefore alter the strategies needed to overcome them.
This was consistent throughout the game. It takes a little bit to get used to it, but one can play it fairly soon. But the more you play, the more you see the depth of the game and realize the extent to which various strategies can be employed.
Strongly recommended. my best friend is considering buying a pc just so he can play this game because i've raved about it so much.
Customer Review: Quality game but not all that fun Summary: 3 StarsFirstly, regular version of this game comes on 6 CDs. How ridiculous that a software publisher would subject their customers to such a thing as having to install a game over 6 CDs. But I guess its the only way they can offer the DVD collectors edition for more money.
Im having a hard time putting into words my review of this game but I'll do my best. The quality is there. Theres no question about that. But to me, it was absolutely no fun to play. I really pushed myself to give the game a good chance to win me over. Because I've read some reviews that give this game very high marks. But after a couple of hours of playing it I just decided it was not worth my time. And I think it all comes down to the fact that I have been spoiled by the best RTS ever made and that is Warcraft III and the expansion Frozen Throne. I live to play Warcraft III. Thats how fun it is. It has character. The units have character which make them fun to play. And the graphics of Warcraft III are so colorful and bright. The problem, only in my opinion of course, with BFME2 is that is takes a completely different approach from Warcraft III. It has a more serious nature to it. Let me just say in closinig that if you are a Warcraft III:Frozen Throne fan this game will probably disappoint you. Its a completely different beast. As much as I wanted to like this game, it just wasnt fun to me.
Customer Review: Might be an interesting game Summary: 2 StarsDespite the fact that the requirements for this game are met by my computer the game will not run. Instead the game boots up and as soon as you attempt to move a character the computer is automatically rebooted. Researching this issue, I found that either the graphics driver had to be updated(which I did) or the monitor resolution must be lowered(which I tried). Neither solution helped, I have not been able to play the game. I assume this will work with a more updated computer so I will wait until I build my next one before knowing whether or not this is a worthwhile game.
Customer Review: lord of the rings battel for middle earth 2 Summary: 4 Starsgreat gameplay great music. the stratgey part of the game consists of get a bunch of units together and throw the at the other army no tactics or formations. even when u put them in a formation once u give them the move order or attack order they all bunch up.That was my main complaint other than that it is a fun game.
Customer Review: A real shocker in a good and bad way Summary: 5 StarsThe greatest strategy on earth and i own it. now i'm going to give you read out why you should by this game. i will also tell you the features.
first of my favorite ting is creating your own hero with swords, axes, shields, armour, pads, stats(such as power and health), and powers. i like using the wizard class the best because of their awesome powers like fire balls and evens the hero gandalf's word of power spell. don't worry about getting the first game before the second because the first sucks. in this game you can customize your central fortress with catapaults, towers, and walls. you can build anywhere and command large armys. the factions you can play as are,Men, Elves, Dwarves, Isengard, Mordor, and Goblins. you can controls a navy and the spell that you can choose are so darn cool it's unbelievable. (Whew!) and i'm just getting started, there are new maps, a story driven campaign, and a risk style war of the ring mode. i say if you have the cash (which is not alot) then get this game NOW!!!!!! thank you for reading this review.
