Customer Review: Zombies "r' us Summary: 4 StarsLeft 4 Dead is a blast. The game is a FPS with a solo campaign and on-line play. The solo missions are set up as four different movies with multiple acts. The movies follow the player and 3 other characters who are immune to the virus that causes the zombification of the people. The game is fast, brutal and gory, not for small children. I had to shut it down when my daughter came into the room where I was playing. I didn't weant to deal with the nightmares.
The solo missions are fun, really fun actually. I have tried the on-line as well. It is well thought out. The player can jump into and out of games at will and the game's AI adjusts gameplay to keep things challenging for everyone. Also the AI takes over when the player has to leave so you can get out without bailing on your teammates. No mission has ever lasted longer than a half hour so it is good for a casual gamer.
A real fun game.
Customer Review: Valve has done it again. Summary: 5 StarsSimply amazing, valve continues to top almost every other game company with near perfect titles. I own every Valve game to date on Steam (and a few off of Steam), and this game just pushes the limits when it comes to Multiplayer experience. The graphics are somewhat of a mix of realistic and cel-shaded (think TF2 meets Resident Evil 4), and the atmosphere couldn't be better. The music definitely creates the appropriate backdrop to the heart-pounding action.
The AI is hugely developed, especially in the special zombies.
All in all, another awesome game from Valve, masters of gamemaking.
Customer Review: A huge betrayal by Valve. Summary: 2 StarsBehold, the first Valve game that launched incomplete and has been given minimal support post-launch. If you read any review on major web sites, they'll note that only 2 of the 4 levels can be played in VS mode. This has since been patched (nearly a year later), but now that E3 is about over, we know why this happened... because Valve didn't take a break after finishing L4D, and began working on L4D2 already.
Already.
As for whether or not L4D is a good game, just ask anyone who's played it. I use the past tense for a reason--L4D is a game that will capture your heart instantly and grab onto it tightly for maybe a month, but no more than that. There is no content, the gameplay has fundamental flaws which Valve acknowledges (see E3 interviews) but refuses to patch because they're making these fixes the primary "features" of L4D2.
In short, it's the game equivalent of Tamagotchis. Fun for a while, but once you grow out of it, as everyone does, you'll laugh at yourself for ever wasting the time and money on it in the first place.
Customer Review: Don't Buy Summary: 1 StarsValve promised new characters, new weapons, new campaigns, new achievements.... and then they decided to release L4D2. Admitted in an interview, they started working on L4D2 IMMEDIATELY after L4D (this game) was launched. The lobby system is still bugged, and we are still waiting for the SDK (to allow user-made content) even though they were promised a long time ago. STAY AWAY FROM VALVE. They lie about what they have in store for their products.
