Video Game Reviews of Black & White 2Customer Review: Great Fun with some kinks, Summary: 4 StarsI just bought this game and after getting a card that supported pixel shading ( you can find cheap ones for around 90$)it worked perfectly on my... old windows xp. Basically in this game you are a god summoned by the Greeks to help them, or if your bad enslave them. The best thing in this game is by FAR the graphics. Simply amazing water effects and such as is to be expected from a black and white game. The many bugs that came with the out of the box game are quickly adressed with the first patch. Another nifty feature is your creature, he changes just as you change and unlike in the first game you are no longer the irritated mother of an overly large, retarted animal. Simple gauges and such let you teach the creature this time around giving you more time for the actual game. There are 4 peoples/tribes to be conquered/ enticed, the Greeks (you), the Japanese, The norse, and the Egyptians. Your main enemy are the Atztecs. Why? because they are war like. You would think being evil would make them like you but it doesnt so whatever. The few major draw back of this game was the resource gathering. Its long and its tiring. once you have a big enough population of people you have to worry less about it but then ore becomes the major issue, so basically there will be resource gathering no matter what. The major FUN element i think is the ability to manipulate objects, for instance you can create rock slides in valleys to thin enemy numbers or put flaming trees in their path to at least stop them for a little while, or if your TRULY evil you can throw flaming people at them, the possibilities are simply endless. AND the game has an ENORMOUS amount of replayability, if you were bad you can be good or vice versa or you can pick a different creature OR my favorite part, there are great mod sites out there for the game and some sites have instructions on how to install the mod. Or if your talented (unlike me) Lion head released a modding tool to make your own. For intsance i turned my entire army into a bunch of flesh eating rabbits... It just doesnt get better than that ( or for you normal people you can get skeleton armies and such). So to wrap it up, basically this game is fun for people who have IMAGINATION or maybe just want to try something new. It has massive amounts of replayability and has beautiful graphics. I recommend it to all who have wanted the chance to be able to feed random people to a giant demonic lion after your fire ball miracle missed the enemy town.
Customer Review: Do not buy this game until they solve installation problem Summary: 1 StarsI bought this game about 2 weeks ago. I've tried everything I could to just install this game and.............. failed miserably... :(
I looked up the help manual they provided with the game box and also went to EA website and Lionhead website to try to fix this problem, but they didn't even have this problem on their support website. I tried to download video, sound, CD-ROM, and motherboard drivers and checked all my hard drives which took almost 4 days!! :(
and~~ closed all my background programs.... But!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still having problem...
My system is celeron 2.93 G with Asus motherboard + 768 ram + windows XP service pack 2 + Geforce FX 5500 256 mb + sound blaster live 5.1 + 350 W power
What pisses me off is I just upgraded my system to play this XXXX game... :(
This is what I have when I try to install.

Customer Review: Black and White 2 Summary: 3 StarsThis game is very similar to BW1 with some added features. If you liked BW1, you will like BW2.
You can build walls and pick up multiple people now. There are many more buildings you can build. You can build them yourself, without having to rely on your people.
The demon and the angel are back. They are the highlight of this game to me.
The visuals are improved and the popping of terrain as you zoom in and out has been significantly reduced.
The villagers are somewhat smarter, they will find work, rather than just sit and wait for something to do.
For me, the game moves too slowly and I was always running out of ore. Once you have no more ore, you hear "We need more ore", over and over and over again. Of course you can't expand easily without more ore. This is one of my biggest issues with this game. You need a resource, but can't get it. The villigers aren't smart enough to go search for it, and it gets frustrating trying to expand.
Building walls is similarly frustrating. It is hard to connect them together and hard to determine if someone can get around them. I built a wall up to a mountain and the enemy happily went right around it :(
For some reason you can build walls outside your influence area, but not roads. You get more influence by having your buildings connected to roads. To get that, I would up building a small stretch of road to the edge of my influence(which does not expand your influence), build a structure on the road (which does expand your influence), wait for the building to be built, then added another section of road. This creeping expansion takes way too long and is not all that interesting.
You have to breed villigers to make an army. That makes sense to me. The problem somes when your army is lost in a battle, you have to breed your villigers and wait for them to grow up and become of age. This get back to my point about the game being to slow for me.
The level of detail is amazing. You can see bugs on the ground and zoom out to 10,000 feet to see the whole island. Lionhead is to be commended for that.
I did find the blantant marketing annoying. There is an awful blurb in the instruction manual that is so out of place, I am disappointed with Lionhead. You cannot hit escape to avoid the intro marketing scenes which seem to go on forever. While I understand the marketing tie in with other companies, *please* let me escape over them after you display them. At the very least the 10th time I have started the game.
As for bugs, the game locks up for me sometimes after I exit a level and I have to reboot. If I manage to get back to the OS, the reolution has been changed to what the game resolution was set to.
Customer Review: Didn't Recognize my Middle Mouse Button Summary: 1 StarsJust a note about two technical problems I had with this game. First, during installation, it locked up my computer (XP Pro, fully-updated) twice (big red button time). The first time was on the 4th (out of 4) CDs. To work around that, I copied all four CDs to my hard drive and installed from there. That led to my second lockup. While merely copying the files to my hard drive, XP locked up again. After that hard boot, I was able to get all the files copied and installed. But, that second lockup leads me to suspect the problem was with the CDs themselves.
My second problem was an incompatibility with my Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. During the initial tutorial, the game goes through a section on panning the view using the middle mouse button. The tutorial simply wouldn't recognize my mouse's middle button clicks. After searching the web, I found that people with the Logitech MX 1000 (amongst others) had the same problem. The solution was to use their mouse software to change the default middle mouse button to Autoscroll or middle-click. For some reason, doing the same with my Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 software didn't work. At that point, I just said "to heck (hah) with it" and uninstalled the game. My son tells me that when he played the game, he had the same problem with his Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. He worked around it by changing the options in the game to use the SHIFT key instead of the middle mouse button.
It's not much of a review, but hopefully, it might help others who are running into similar problems and are willing to fight with the game more than I was. I rate this game at 1 star out of 5.
