I first started playing this game in single player mode, got bored once in expert level it was no longer a challenge. When I finally had a broadband connection available (that was like maybe two years later!!!) I completely rediscovered the game! Online play is AWESOME! Im addicted to this! Yeah you will sometimes get killed by a teammate to get a tank or plane, but I dont mind (I just make sure I punish him later :)
I suppose that todays graphics cards will be able to handle this game fluently (Ive played the game on radeon x200 express IGP, radeon mobility 9700, and geforce go7400 mobility chipsets, settings on LOW). For the low price that you can have this game, I would recommend you to purchase it and give it a try!!

The online ability of this game is amazing, up to 64 people playing in one room. The game is very strategic and the graphics are very well rounded. The amount of people that still play this game is impressive. The only thing is upon purchasing the game you have to go to EAGames main website and download the "1.41v full patch" for the game because a lot of updates have been released enhancing the gaming. Other than the normal glitches and EA customer service, this game rocks. BF:2 for me epitomizes on-line gaming. Fast action, lots of different maps and realistic game play. Customer Review: Great Multiplayer game

First of all, I would recommend getting this game only if you meet the requirements, not the minimum, but the normal ones. If you don't you will get a crappy experience. Next this game is mainly designed to be played online with other people. I say this because there is no campaign mode and the singleplayer maps are very small. As in any game there is always the chance of getting in a server full of a-holes but this should not discourage you from enjoying the game. There's a bigger-than-normal learning curve because the game is very realistic. You cannot go by yourself and expect to win the battle like this, you must group and attack as a unit. You must also practice a lot and learn the secrets of each map, as well as the best strategy for it. Wow, what a huge dissappointment. I played this game heavily when it was released but I took a break for the last year. I just started playing again recently. So much has changed in a year with the latest patches. The problems are as follows:
1. The Black Hawk helicopter has been nerfed by EA so badly that it is now a joke. No one will get into one of these flying paper deathtraps anymore. The miniguns might as well shoot water. You CANNOT kill anyone from the air anymore. You can hose an unprotected sniper until the guns overheat and he will just laugh while shooting at you. EA should have patched the Black Hawk right out of the game since it just sits there round after round, unused. Very sad.
2. Even though I did not purchase the expansions (Special Forces, Euro Trash, etc.), I am constantly killed by weapons I have never heard of. This is because EA decided to let everyone that bought an expansion use their new weapons on ALL servers. Just another way EA says F.U. to their customers who don't buy ALL expansions.
3. Ground-to-air missiles such as the IGLA are nerfed as well. It is nearly impossible to hit a jet from the ground, heat seeking missiles aside. They bomb you all day yet the range on your ground defenses is barely far enough to track a low-flying helo let alone a jet.
In conclusion, while still playable and fun, parts of BF2 have been hobbled, crippled, castrated and made to wear a pretty pink dress.
