Customer Review: Little piece of crap
Summary: 1 Stars

I shouldn't have bought this. Apparently you need to download updates for this game to work and the smallest one is around 450 MB so I had to give up multiplayer.

And the single player consists of you fighting bots who can snipe you across the map with a pistol, and just ran around instead of behaving like soldiers. You have a 'campaign' mode that basically consists of playing all the maps one after another against PC-controlled bots, that again run around sniping you with pistols.

I wasted my money. I hope you don't by avoiding this game.

Customer Review: I ordered new
Summary: 1 Stars

I ordered a new game so I could have the latest version but I got the first version which wont work with the mods I wanted it for. This is the last time I buy software from Amazon.

Customer Review: Fun, but historicly accurate? not likely
Summary: 3 Stars

Most reviews out there speak the truth, this game is loads of fun. The gameplay itself is good, the textures are great. But the weapons are horrible. The Red Army in the initial release lacks all of their own weapons, they use the Lee-Enfield No4, a British rifle, the M1A1 Thompson, an American SMG, the B.A.R, another American weapon, a support machine gun this time, the Bazooka, which historicly they did use, in small quantities and the Colt .45, an American pistol. The Americans have the Lee-Enfield as their rifle, and sniper rifle. The Japanese have all German weapons in the initial release.
Now, not only did Dice, the developers, screw up the infantry loadout, they screwed up the existing weapons. The models are atrociously innaccurate, looking only vaugly like the real thing. Later releases fleshed out the weapon loadout a little more, adding one Russian weapon for the assault class, and one weapon for the Japanese assault class. More updates brought the M1 Garand for the Americans, but only for the Pacific theatre, and they of course screwed up the Garand aswell, putting the cocking handle on the wrong side of the gun, but it doesn't stop there, the reload animation is even more horrible, to load, the soldier's hand brings the Clip, pushes it straight down through the top of the gun with his thumb. Were that a real Garand, he would have been in a great deal of pain as the cocking handle would have slammed forward and crushed his thumb, not a pleasant experience. Aside from that, the Assault class, being the most common class, and also carries either the StG 44 (German) or the B.A.R (US), neither were commonly carried, the B.A.R was very very heavy, and the StG 44 wasn't readily available, especially in 1942. Further more, the weapon bullets are VERY slow, digging revealed the Colt .45 to shoot at 200 feet per second. AIRSOFT and PAINTBALL guns have a higher velocity. Such a velocity would be painful due to the weight of the .45 bullet, but it would neither pierce the skin nor kill. Several feet of lead to hit a target is necessary to hit someone over 200 yards. Artillery and Tanks also suffer from slow shots, the cannon of a tank is more like a Potato Gun, going through a high and visibly slow arc toward the target.

In short, Action gamers, this game is for you.
History buffs, avoid this, its a WWII THEMED game, not WWII itself. Go play Call of Duty (Or the soon to be released Call of Duty 2), or even better, Brothers in Arms.

Customer Review: This game is fun and personal
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this game and its expansions. The fun is not in capturing the other flag or capturing all the control points, but its in getting there. And its personal cause its really everyone for themselves on the team except when you are bunched togther at a CP deflecting an offensive which has to be a team effort. Other then that you go go go, and try some Rambo style attacks on the enemy. Playing Kamikazee with your Jeep against their tank to slow them. Sniping from a good vantage point especially when you get one guy at his machine gun and his buddy also follows and its one long string of idiots who dont get a clue and try and sus me out before exposting themselves to my crosshairs.
All I need is to get sniped once and I will resurrect as one as well and payback is glorius. It does get personal because sniping is very diffiult due to the distances so you wanna show whose king sniper to the other side.

One drawback and its not the game, its those stupid newbies or stupid oldbies who dont pay attention to whats going on, they never scan the horizon for snipers or approaching vehicles or aircraft. The sit around playing with their weapons completely oblivious to the greater good, bombs near othersy so you catch a hit and lose health, and they do it just for the hell of it, go figure. Usually, TKing be damed I will shoot these SOBS to stop the annoyance. And if anyone on the other team cheats such as using a clip cheat to hide within the scenery itself, inside boulders trees etc if the server or host wont correct the issue then I will by respawing on that persons team and capping them with a message as to why.

Customer Review: Best WW2 Game Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This is easily my favorite WW2 Game ever made.

I haven't even played online play yet, but I already like this game.

Whoever said they rather play Medal of Honor over a Single-Player game of this really has low standards. I'd rather play against an unpredictable army rather than the highly-predictable opponent in Medal of Honor. You can play Medal of Honor a hundred times, and the enemy AI will always be in the same spot. At least in a single player game of Battlefield 1942, the enemy opposition is constantly on the move. And no, the enemy is not lousy. I've played human opponents at Goldeneye who are 10x's worse than the AI opponents in Battlefield.

The only bad thing about this game is this: I just bought a brand new computer a few weeks ago, and I still can't run this game the way it was designed to be played. I have to limit the amount of bots, and I have tweak visibility (among a few other things) in order to run this game smoothly.

Also, when I bought the Anthology pack for Battlefield 1942, the packaging was incredibly pathetic. Why did the packagers not put these CDs into CD cases? Because of the crappy packaging, I've already scratched the back of Disc 1.

Anyways, I'd easily recommend this game to anyone who enjoys WW2-themed games. Yes, even if you don't play online, get this old game before it disapears from shelves.
