Video Game Reviews of NFL Head Coach

Customer Review: Good game ... but needs some polishing!
Summary: 3 Stars

A few too many bugs and I'm having difficulty porting my saved files over to a re-install. This is a great start to a "real" franchise mode, but it plays more like a concept than a fully tested game.

I've played it 40+ hours and will keep going, but I think it's just holding me over until Madden 07 comes out.

Customer Review: Headaches
Summary: 1 Stars

Besides the headaches already mentioned, it took three copies to get one with the access code in it. It uses ridiculous amounts of memory. Go with Football Mogul instead.

Customer Review: Head Coach needs Head Designer
Summary: 1 Stars

This game could have been great but has several flaws. I don't need to spend 2 hours a day redesigning my coaches clothes! Free Agency and Restricted Free Agency are not separate in the NFL but they are in the game. My "owner" of the Packers which they don't have, wanted me to make the team younger but the age of free agents isn't available on the screen when you select which agent of free agents to contact. Finally, I tried to get a player to take less and refused so I offered to take his offer and his agent refused but offered me the same offer again as a counter offer! You have no sense of the game from the sidelines so you don't know why plays aren't working. You just see lost 3 yards or gained 5 yards. Finally, the owner told me I hadn't filled positions that I had just drafted for, apparently he can't recognize a draft pick until it is signed. It should have been a lot better game. For those who read the review about the draft process, you can skip ahead with the o button to your next pick.

Customer Review: Outstanding Game
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is for the true football guru. You have to be diligent, intelligent, educated concerning football, and love every aspect of football to truly appreciate this game.

If you are the typical A.D.D. rock'em, sock'em, figure this game out in an hour video gamer, this game is not for you.

You need to have a deep knowledge of football and what it takes to lead a football team from the draft, to practice, and the games.

If you have these characteristics, then you need to have the foundation for your football belief system articulated. Are you a defensive guy or an offensive guy? Are you a power I guy or a west coast guy? Do you like to blitz or cover?

Then you need to diligently scout the current NFL players and the college prospects in order to build off of your current base team with free agents, trades, and the draft.

Then you develop a game plan, study and develop a play book, manage your team through practice to maximize their potential, and execute during the actual game.

It is an awesome game that allows you to develop your strategy and ideas whether you are actually playing the game or not.

It is time consuming, so don't get this game if you don't love football and want to put in the required time it takes to actually be the head coach and GM of a pro football team.

If you like those things, this will be the best game you ever bought.

Customer Review: Should be titled "NFL Bad Hoax"
Summary: 1 Stars

Everything written here about this game is amusingly true. I cannot figure out what EA was thinking by creating this game. For those familiar with Madden 2006 the interface is alot like Superstar mode only more restrictive. The "Superstar" and "Head Coach" concepts are intriguing, but EA should stick with what has worked for years. Their franchise mode is WAY more user friendly than it is in NFL Head Coach. I love Madden's Franchise mode and if EA had set up NFL Head Coach under that format I think the game would be much more successful. Better yet, just include "Coaching Mode" as part of the Madden 2008 game. Now that would be cool!
