Video Game Reviews of Madden NFL 07

Customer Review: Go Ravens
Summary: 4 Stars

I actually purchased this game through EA and downloaded it from their web site. I have to say i'm very happy with it so far. I've been playing franchise mode and i've completed my first regular season at the Baltimore Ravens. The game has 4 difficulty levels, rookie, pro, all-pro, and All-madden(i think). I played through the regular season with the difficulty level on Pro and have a few observations to make.

Points:
I'd score over 40 points fairly regularly i think i broke the 40 point mark 10 times in 16 games and went over 50 4 times and never scored less then 24.

Rushing:
Running the ball has been a breeze, Jamal Lewis ended the season with over 2000 yards on the ground although he also had a very large number of carries. Typically over 40 per game. If the defense is playing you just right it's very hard to not lose yards. But 75% of the time they aren't and you can pick up 3-5 yards pretty easily and break it open for 10+ on occasion. You really need to find holes in the line pretty fast or your own players will form a wall that you just can't push through, and eventually a defender will trip you up.

Passing:
I did tend to be interception prone, throwing 30 with Steve McNair and another 5 in limited time with Boller. I tend to think that most of the interceptions were due to my poor decision making. The last 6 games I concentrated alot more on making sure my recievers were open before i threw it up and was willing to pull the ball down and run with it more, i only had 5 ints in that stretch. However my opponent tended to throw alot of interceptions, Sumari Roll ended up with 19 picks and 9 of them run back for a touch down, McAllister had 11 with 5 run back for a score. Mcnair ended the season with 3800 or so yards passing and a QB rating of 71.5 (darn those ints)

Special Teams
I really enjoy kick returns, i managed to return 4 or 5 kick offs for a score. The computer even got a few good run backs on me. Field goals are easy to hit, even long 54 yard ones i could hit easily and the computer did the same. I never saw a punt or field goal blocked, i'm not sure if that's a realistc thing to try for in this game. I'm a bit disapointed with punt returns though. I can't seem to find a button to call a fair catch and the coverage is almost always right on top of you when you catch it. I 5 yard return is a big deal, i'd usually only get 1 or 2 yards on a return.

I found that the games i played seemed to have way too many plays in them. You have 40 seconds to pick a play and snap the ball but you can easily do that in 10 if you know what you want to do and waiting for the clock to run down isn't what i call fun. There is a fast play optoin which will wind the clock down to 20 seconds then have the offense break huddle, it's usually around 12 seconds when the QB gets under center and i usually let it run down to 8 or so before snapping the ball. Even with this i'd still run 65-85 plays a game. My defense would build up gawdy tackle totals, my O-line completely dominated the league pan-cake statistics, just from more plays being executed. While there were penalties in the game they were very few, 2-3 a game. I think more penalties would cut down on the number of plays per game. Maybe things will be a little different on the next difficulty level which i'll be trying next season.

I found the menues to be a bit hard to navigate but there are lots of things to look at and do between games. All and all this is a very enjoyable game.

Customer Review: PC version is VERY good.
Summary: 5 Stars

From what I gather with most reviews, the xbox 360 version is
subpar at best, and that's the version I really wanted. So I went
ahead and got the PC version, and am VERY happy with it.It has all
the things you want, editable players/roster,John and Al,fast load
times, and the graphics are awesome (with enough cpu and video power).
I'm running at 1600x1200,and all is bliss.

Customer Review: Another great Madden game
Summary: 4 Stars

After playing this Madden, I am impressed with the improvements they made from last year. In the last years game, you probably remembered the gameplay being a bit unrealistic. For example in punting, none of your special teams players would block for you. This year the players do block for you and sometimes you can get some nice returns. However, I haven't been able to run it back for a touchdown yet. Also the pancake problem has been fixed. In last years game, all of your offensive lineman would rack up many pancakes and all of them would head to the pro bowl. This has been fixed and the game accurately depicts offensive lineman to their actual ability. Another improvement is the tackling animations. You can see recievers and runners carry their momentum for more yards and real life physics type tackles. The only drawback is the computer kicking. Many of the pro bowl kickers like Vinateri kicked for 55 yards and more sometimes. I know they are good, but 56 yard kicks don't happen all the time. Also the EA soundtrack is always going for more rap and rock, which I don't really care for. Some of the songs can be a bit annoying. I did enjoy the many songs from NFL classic music in the Madden 2006 version.

There is a key feature they always add for the Madden game. Since it is Shaun Alexander on the cover, they focus on the running game. Now you are able to control blockers and lead blockers toward defenders. This makes it easier to run the ball. Also I have noticed that you need to choose plays more carefully. Dime and quarter packages won't work for the run and could add up to a lot of yards for the offense. This has been a nice feature to add for the game, however I have noticed that the computer players would run for 40 carries and just abandon the pass game.

All of the features like the francise mode has been given more depth. Along with the usual features like storyline central and owner mode, there is better depth in the off season. Free agency is before the draft and you can actually have the rookies do workouts with the team. Also you can scout rookies in the All star game for rookies. Much more off season things make francise mode even better. The graphics mainly look the same except the grass is much more realistic looking.

A thing that I really don't like is the exclusive license in the Madden game. It doesn't make EA compete against other brands so they are not adding many new features which are extraordinary or amazing. The features in last years game and this year is pretty small compared to before the license. It is still a good Madden game and well worth a purchase though.
