Video Game Reviews of FIFA 2001Customer Review: About the new fifa game Summary: 4 StarsThe new Fifa by EA Sports is quite an improvement over the 2000 or 99 releases. The main improvement is in the improvement of the computer's defense as well as the goal keeper skills. Furthermore, the pitch is much bigger than what it used to be, giving the feeling of authentic football(soccer) match. It's also neat to finally see each team's detailed uniforms. The 99 release had a neat feature such as the European Dream league and the millenium edition had many special teams and historical teams as well. The 01 release lacks in these specified areas. However, FIFA 2001 definitely offers more pros than cons and should be a blast to play for all you football fans. Go Juventus!
Customer Review: This game is ridiculous Summary: 1 StarsI don't know what EA Sports are doing. I have played 97 to 2001 of the FIFA series, and I found some interesting things. Indeed, the graphics are improving, but the game play are worsening. There is no way to call this a good simulation game. Do you expect the golie to fly around and make impossible moves? Do you expect a player to spin 3 times in a row to avoid tackles? Do you expect each player to use overhead kick that easily? EA Sport has insulted every single soccer player, and the world of soccer. If FIFA 2002 were going to be similar of worse than 2001, I think EA Sports should stop right away. EA Sports deserves no right to develop soccer games.
Customer Review: FIFA 2001, better in defending and motion Summary: 4 StarsThe defending by the computer is definitely better than ever. At last there is a decent defense. Als the motions are improved. Good. But I think the FIFA concept has been worked out. unless they come with some brilliant renewal, this was the last version I bought (after four years).
Customer Review: Still not there yet... Summary: 2 StarsSince EA is the only one in the PC market that make a (decent) soccer game I waited with great anticipation for FIFA 2001. Once again they are just still not there yet, as usual they have improved the graphics with motion capture and the effect are simply amazing, however this is also one of its major drawbacks. Each player must complete its motion captured movement before it can move again. Therefore your player must receive...control...and then pass the ball, and by this time you are tackled already. Another problem is your inablity to pass into open spaces which is the essence of any sport. Such as the off the ball rotation in basketball, the ability to pass and move into opens spaces is just as important in soccer. There is a "through-ball" button but your balls always seemed to be intercepted, not because of a bad pass, but because your players always seem to lose the 50/50 balls, a decent manual also would have gone a long way here. Gameplay issues aside (even though they are the most important). Sound and commentary are a great improvement, like if you won the league last year they will mention it next year, amazing. However overall I was very dissapointed and I don't think I would want to wait another year for another poorly made game.....thank goodness I am also a big fan of basketball.
Customer Review: Getting Better All the Time Summary: 5 StarsI have followed EA's FIFA game since 1996 and the 2001 version has hit a new high. I was somewhat disappointed by the 2000 version but the 2001 version has made up for it. It incorporates superior graphics and a much more realistic gameplay experience (especially from the Tower cam).
