Video Game Reviews of KeepsakeCustomer Review: Great For Beginners, Kids, and for Families Summary: 4 StarsI am a veteran point-and-click adventure gamer and I really enjoyed the story and the beauty of this game. It even stopped my husband in his tracks while he was walking by one day because the graphics and scenery were so impressive.
However, it was a fairly simple story with quite easy puzzles. There is even a help feature if you get stuck on a puzzle that will eventually just give you the solution. I am quite impatient and so I kind of like that part somewhat- but it did eventually make the game a tad boring since I never had to really think about the puzzles too much. Because of this I never finished the game due to the lack of a challenge, but I did play almost all the way through (which was only took a couple of days or so).
I can totally see this game irritating some serious gamers that really enjoy a good difficult puzzle, so I would recommend this for young players without much experience as you will not get to a point where the game becomes so hard it is discouraging. Plus, it's really pretty so it catches the attention of those ADD-prone kiddies ;)
Great as a family game as well, as everyone from little Suzy to Grandpa will be able to sit at the computer and participate at some level together (although I'd say a 8 or 9 year old could easily play alone if they know basic computer game controls and have descent language/cognitive skills...).
The only real cons to this game (besides the super-easiness) would be some of the voice acting. The actors voicing the playable characters are really good, but the actor for the friend's father is just terrible. Some people might not care (I usually don't), but it was so bad I started to dread every cut scene (and there are A LOT of cut scenes). In fact, it was so bad it was laughable. But in the grand scheme of things, his acting skills don't do much harm to the game itself.
All in all a great beginner's/family game.
Customer Review: More trouble than it's worth Summary: 1 StarsNice graphics and sound, interesting story, not too hard puzzles, but I had some trouble with the game locking up in a certain spot. I downloaded the recommended patch and got further in the game, only to have it lock up again in another spot. The problems spoil the fun in playing. I have no such troubles with any other games I've played. I purchased this game in a bargain bin for less than advertised here and still don't feel it was worth it. Registered with the game makers website and discovered many other players suffering the same problems. Good luck if you still want it.
Customer Review: Sharing a great game... Summary: 5 StarsI've been playing adventure computer games since they first started up! This is among one of the best. Its beautiful graphics and music helps you become involved in the storyline and stay there. Fun to play, challenging at times, and always beautiful to look at, I highly recommend this one.
Customer Review: Not really meant for adventure gamers Summary: 1 StarsI would like to say that this game had SOMETHING that myself and my father could enjoy together. We play point and click adventure games all the time (Last Express, The Longest Journey, Barrowhill...) and had high hopes for this game. It sounded interesting.
Unfortunately almost from minute one we found nothing interesting. The graphics are okay, nothing exciting or inventive. The controls are...horrendous. And the puzzles were either TOO easy or TOO hard. We stopped about a half hour into playing it. I played for a bit with my sister a few months ago, but honestly we just wanted to see how fast we could whip through the game. The 'hint' feature in the game is more then that. If you can't figure it out after the oh so many hints it gives you, the game will SHOW you exactly how to solve the puzzle.
Maybe this would be better for younger gamers, it doesn't have anything scary (at least nothing I saw) or objectionable. Story is pretty direct and what younger girl wouldn't wish to save her best friend? And if nothing else the 'hint' feature will certainly help them through it.
But for anyone over 18 (or anyone who does adventure games with any regularity) this will just bore you to tears.
Customer Review: Decent game but buggy Summary: 2 StarsI liked the storyline behind this game, the puzzles, the amazing artwork, the characters, and all the things the other reviewers have discussed. But the game was seriously buggy, and it got worse as the game progressed. Downloading the patch made things better, but even then, the game would completely lock up my computer about every half hour. I'm not sure I'll ever have the patience to finish it.
