Video Game Reviews of Codename: Panzers Phase OneCustomer Review: Best Realistic War RTS ever! Summary: 5 StarsI've played a lot of war games on my PC, but not a lot of great military RTS games. Sure the Close Combat games were fun, and pretty darn realistic, but this game is a blast to play. Some of the RTS games I play are pretty darn complicated, and I need to learn a ton of hotkeys, but this one makes things pretty simple. I also hate games that make me gather resources in order to fight battles and make units. This is WAR...I'm not interested in "factory simulator" or "supply line simulator." I just want to fight!
The graphics are great, and the special effects are pretty cool too. I'm getting better at the game as I play it more, and I can't wait to get further in the campgaigns. I'd heartily recommend this game to any strategy fan of military games. Thumbs up!
Customer Review: Just awesome Summary: 4 StarsIn the last little while, the RTS genre has become fairly stale, flooded with Starcraft wannabes. Companies who want to make a fast buck by copying pervious games.
Then in walks Panzers, a game with an awesome single player feature. I have not played such a good single player game for a while. Like one of the guys who also reviewed the game, I too agree that it is the single player part of the game is where the developers have really focus on. It's very polished and strategic; gets the brain jucies flowing as you plan your lines of attack.
Lets face it, anyone who is an RTS fan/gamer know that is the single player that sells millions of copies of a game and that's why developers focus hard on creating the single player part of the game. That's not to say that CDV did not spend time on creating a stable multiplayer game.
Multiplayer in Panzers rocks! LoL The other night I played a multiplayer game with my man and squished him like a bug. :) I saw the look on his face after the game was done and he wasn't too happy. Who says women can't play games? :)
One thing that is holding me back from giving this game a 5/5 is that there is no ratings system. When I play RTS games, I play hard and I want to know how I rank with other players. So if they implement a rating/ladder system this game would be complete. :)
Cheers to CDV for an awesome game!
Customer Review: Nice RTS for those who don't like to micromanage Summary: 5 StarsI played the previews, and got a full copy of this recently. Personally, I love it. The fact is, it's a solid RTS that doesn't have you spending all day micromanaging. I'm really tired of resource gathering RTS's, and thank heavens, this has none of that in it. You get allocated Prestige Points at the beginning of each round to spend on extra units. This lets you decide what sort of tactical mix of units you're going to need for the job.
The units are both complete and detailed. They are based on real-world historical units, though they did seem to throw in some extra units (like the Tiger Tank) for fun, I could be wrong though, I'm not a history major.
I'm a graphics junkie, so it's nice to see the cool visuals in Panzers. You can zoom in real tight and see all kinds of nice detail, from patches on uniforms to dented tank armor. I wouldn't try playing this game from the close-in zoom yet, it's a bit too "in your face" at that level. But it is cool to check out a tank ripping up terrain at ground level. Also, even at the highest settings, Panzers doesn't cripple your PC and slip into single digit framerates.
Overall, the gameplay is easy to pick up and understand, the graphics are great and the online co-op mode makes it really cool online. Love it.
Customer Review: Codename: Panzers - State of the Art RTS! Summary: 5 StarsI've played the Panzers Multiplayer demo yesterday for the first time and was really suprised... the community is really huge. I think it's already released in Germany and France. I've played with some guys from France, Germany and Switzerland.
The game features stunning graphics and outstanding vehicle behaviour.
Every player is able to choose his own army out of many different units at mission start. You have to decide which units will help you best to destroy your opponents. That's the first thrilling part, after that you have to fight with great air support against up to 4 players (8 in the full version!).
And it's really much fun!
I expect the full version will be as good as the MP demo. I've heard it will be released soon in the US... hope there will be no delay.
PS: There is no mouse problem anymore.
Customer Review: German version is fantastic Summary: 5 StarsThe demos released for the US are spotty in quality - I recently returned from Germany with the German version and can say this is a phenominally built game for the WWII grogs. No, its not the most realistic game released. For that buy Combat Mission, Hearts of Iron, etc. But if you are looking for a graphically gorgeous WWII RTS with three distinct, fun campaigns, buy Panzers.
My only gripe is the amount of units you can requisition based on 'prestige' points. Even in the full version there arent nearly enough compared with what was historically available. It wouldve been nice to have infantry units with different weapons or a larger variety of AT guns, recon vehicles, etc.
Multiplayer is fun when limits are placed on the points you can use and the map variety is quite nice. It largely turns into an artillery/tank fest unless you limit what you have.
Overall a great game with not enough historic detail. The mouse problems with the demo are fixed as are the disconnect problems in multiplayer. Gamespy sucks but thats what CDV decided to use.
