Video Game Reviews of American ConquestCustomer Review: The best game I've ever played Summary: 5 StarsI was hopeful when I bought the two games that they would be enjoyable, having already played the first three Cossacks games. They only got better and American Conquest and ACFB topped them all. Wonderful graphics-even on a slow-running machine, and the unit limit! 16,000 units! Actually, for me that wasn't the case. I put the games on an old computer and therefore I had to stay content with 5,000. Still a heck of a lot of men. But that was on a seven-year-old computer with no supporting graphics card and 233Mhz processor. The units are astounding, and the building are amazing. They appear a little large at first, but you get used to them.
However, a few notes on what I found wrong with the games. Note: These are just preferences of mine, not errors.
1. I don't know who does historical research for GSC, but they gave the American fusilier the highest initial hand-to-hand combat rating of the game---and the Americans couldn't even stand up to a bayonet attack for the first few years of the revolution.
2. The sword-fighting infantry-every shooting unit has two weapons, gun and blade- has no sound. Which is disappointing, because the animation of the sword-fights is incredible.
3. The cannon need horses. Their animation is beautiful, almost ballet-like, but they move so SLOW!
4. I've had several battles end in a stalemate on random map because every time my Indians tried to invade the town they got shot to pieces--and every time the Europeans attacked me they got destroyed. Otherwise. A great game
Customer Review: Great and very promising game! Summary: 5 StarsAmazing game! It's not like those war games, where you think you control and entire army and actually only control 4 guys. This game you actually DO control an entire army! It's amazing!!!!!! Historically accurate, which means it's also great for educational purposes. Amazing, and the graphics are pretty good too! If you don't buy this game, especially since the price is really low, then I'd be completely shocked. This is my favorite game of all time.
Customer Review: Think First Summary: 2 StarsI first looked on Amazon and thought American Conquest was a cool game, I even found a discount for the gold edition. It looked like a good game right? Wrong! I threw some money right down the drain!
Pros
The game has an awosome campain.
You get a great variety of civs.( Though they basicly just look diffrent.)
You get a ton of units.
The music wasn't terribly annoying
Cons
The game laggs way, way too much. (At the time I had more than half my memorey, which is 37 gigs.)
The game was way too realisic.(As in if you run low on recorces all your millatry units would turn on you, or out of fifty freacking guys only one acually hits the guy and it takes like three minutes just to reload.)
When one building or ship is hit it keeps on taking dammage even when your villagers repair it.
The second you build a guy recorces start depleting( There for you need like 150 guys just to be working on one recorce to stop it from going down at break neck speed
AND FINALLY THE THING THAT IS NOT JUST STUPID BUT IS MY FINAL PLEA NOT TO BUY THIS GAME IS THAT IT DESTROYS YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!
My dad and I are complete computer tecno wizards and it took both of us a month to un-do every all the damage American Conquest did to me.
Customer Review: Very nice game! Summary: 5 StarsThis game is really awesome. i think it is one of the best command and conquer type games out there! way better than all those age of empire games which seem so simple and boring compared to this!great graphics too! CDV makes some great great games! i just ordered cossacks2:naploenic wars from them and can't wait till it comes!
Customer Review: One in the same Summary: 4 StarsIf you have played Cossacks, then you will know exactly what this game is all about. Nothing spectacular with graphics or storyline, but easy to learn and fun to play. Just don't expect Age of Empires.
