Customer Review: Good (for the first 30 mins)

Okay so a couple year ago I bought this game hearing all the rave about it I thought I would be in for loads of fun. I was wrong I only got to the mines (one of the first levels) and kept dying. This game has a good story and characters but it takes forever to grow a level (get stronger) and the levels are close to impossible. If you want a real RPG get Diablo 2 it has great multiplayer and loads of fun. Or for those of you that cant play M rated games you should get Final Fantasy 7. Peace out and I hope that I just saved you the grief of buying this extremely boring game.Customer Review: Love RPGs? This is for you.

This game is loooong. I really enjoy long games but this a bit much for me. Of course if I could play more than two or three hours a week.... Things I didn't like: not escaping though cutscenes, not automatically reloading the last quicksave and less 'reputation' comments from your NPCs- Highly recommended and a 'must have' for any RPG fan.Customer Review: Baldur's Gate rocks!

I gotta say, Baldur's Gate is one of the best RPG games out there, even though its graphics and interaction between characters is a little dated. No wonder it got '98 RPG game of the year. Baldur's Gate is just awesome. Besides the fact it took away from my social life and glued me to my PC for hours on end, it was great. It's one of my best game that I have right now. Really neat and awesome. Personally, my fav character is a fighter/mage half-elf. Awesome character.
If you haven't played Baldur's Gate yet, then buy and play it; you won't regret it.
But bear this in mind, since nothing else will warn you about: be careful about who you invite into your group: try and stay away from those of opposite alignment, so like if your Good, then be wary around Montaron and Xzar, but if your Evil, stay away from Khalid and Jaheira.

- If you are a true enthusiastic rp-gamer (relating to i.e. DnD, AD&D a.s.o.) - Then this is THE game for you! Though the grafic isn't exactly lovely, it doesn't matter that much, because of the truly excellent gameplay! Baldur's Gate has it all: Traditional hack & slash, varied quests, a load of exciting NPC's, a brilliant story, and not to forget - the occasionally weird humor of the game's programmers...- Hours of fun!

I bought Baldur's Gate after 2 friends kept telling me how great it was. I'm not a big RPG player, however I did find this to be a truly great game.
Positive features of the game: Visually, the game is quite well done, especially the scenary and spell effects. The atmosphere can get quite spooky in underground caverns and during thunderstorms. There is a lot of flexibility when it comes to character creation, and one is even allowed to double-class and choose their character's appearance. The NPCs can be quite engaging, and party members (you can have up to 6) actually interact with each other verbally in often humorous dialogue. The storyline is interesting and generally linear, though there are many sub-quests that one can choose to pursue.
Regarding the down side of the game: By the time the game got to chapter 6 (there are 7), I was ready for it to end. And the ending itself is a bit anticlimactic. My party got up to only 7th level, and thus had rather limited abilities. Comparing this game to Morrowind (which I am now playing), BG could have been a bit more open-ended and expansive in size, which would have enhanced its replayability. After 12 intense days of playing to the end, I promptly auctioned it on Ebay.
For those interested in a well-told, gorgeously rendered D&D-style adventure, with a well-defined main plot and credible monsters and NPCs, BG is a good buy.
