Video Game Reviews of Unreal (Jewel Case)Customer Review: UNREAL!!! Summary: 5 Stars This is sooooo awesome. I grew up with this game as a little girl, watching my dad play it, because i was too scared i refused to. Then i got a few years older and began playing it myself. I just beat it again a few days ago. But the point is this video game is everything a video game should be. Really scary (I can't play it in the dark)-and without all the unnecessary swearing and other things that can bring a good game down. Epic gaming really improved things by creating this game....without it i would be a different person. I am a non-violent person, but this game changed my life.
Description of Unreal (Jewel Case)Unreal stunned action gamers when it was released, thanks to its lush alien environments, scripted mission events, and over-the-top complement of weapons. It raised the bar for first-person shooters both in terms of technology and single-player gameplay, and now you can experience this futuristic action- adventure for less than 10 bucks. Unreal may be old, but you would never know it by looking at the graphics. They still stand as some of the most stunning visuals ever put in an action game, and best those of many newer games we've played. Unreal's only real stumbling block is its uninspired gameplay, which relies too much on standard "find the key" puzzles. The game is challenging regardless--most of the enemies are smart--and we found ourselves pressing ahead just to see what sort of beautiful, strange new environment we would end up in next. We also had a lot of fun playing deathmatch games against the computer-controlled "bots," which put up a heck of a fight. The artificial intelligence of the bots in the newer game Unreal Tournament is much better, but that game doesn't deliver the single-player story line that makes Unreal so compelling. Action fans with 3-D accelerator cards won't want to miss this technological showcase that also happens to be a very fun game. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: - Beautiful graphics and special effects
- Competing against computer-controlled "bots" is a blast
- Scripted events add much excitement to the single-player game
Cons: - Online multiplayer component isn't so great
- Needs a 3-D accelerator card to strut its stuff
You awaken in a small, enclosed room with metal walls. You have no recollection of where you are. Perhaps a prison cell? An angled metal door lies ahead. With effort, you push the creaky slab open. This is not at all what you expected. The "prison" you just exited is now revealed to be a small, badly damaged spacecraft. Walking along a trail in foreign terrain, gun in hand, you journey onward to find out where you are and what your purpose is here. Observing your surroundings beyond the carnage reveals a beautiful and serene, yet somehow spooky, landscape. Two moons are in the sky. Ruins are in the distance. And a big, bad alien is eating one of your buddies. Unreal places you in a stunningly lifelike 3-D world that is as dangerous as it is beautiful. Whether playing alone or on the Internet, Unreal will change your perception of what computer games should be.
