I recently replayed this excellent FPS. It's six years old already but still looks surprisingly good, with characters that aren't too blocky, some food facial expressions and lip-synching, and fairly decent (but not great) animatics. The way this game really stands out, even today, is the artwork that's incorporated into the graphics: vast moons hang in the sky, and planets create immense and colourful backdrops to the space scenes. It's most likely photography mixed with painted images, but they're beautiful and awe-inspiring.
The game is short, but about the same as most FPSs. There are about 13 missions on various worlds, against a mixed bag of foes, from the hulking reptilian Skaarj to some mechanical beings reminiscent of the machines in "The Matrix". The story is fairly strong, although pretty much all of the mission objectives consist of "find the artefact and bring it back". The characters are well drawn, the dialogue quite punchy and often amusing, as well as occasionally touching, particularly towards the end. The alien pilot Ne'baan, a gooey-looking energy being encased in a mechanical suit, is original and entertaining, as well as being very well rounded.
You can pick this up dirt-cheap now, so get a copy and have a few hours of all-out fun. You'll love this if you have fond memories of the first Halo, and the Turok games - it also reminds me a lot of Duke Nukem 3D, which is a real complement!
