Video Game Reviews of The Witcher

Customer Review: Resource intensive
Summary: 2 Stars

Has some merits but pales in comparison to Morrowind\Oblivion, Dungeon Siege, Lion Heart, etc. Its obvious the creators have opted for glitz over substance. My suggestion? Save your $55.00 + replay Diablo. Far more fun and satisfying without the obvious performance and technical issues. When the 1.2 patch for this game is about 115 mb's its obvious there are some serious technical flaws.

Customer Review: Do not believe the hype, screenshots nor any of the vidoes.
Summary: 2 Stars

After watching a number of video reviews and previews for the game, and after veiw the simply incredible screenshots, I decieded I had to have this game. All the reviews and previews promised fasxt paced and innovative combat, deep character customization and a large, explorable game world.

Simply NONE of this was true.

To begin with, the combat just doesnt feel right. It consists of simply clicking your opponent, watching some rather cheesy combat animations and then trying to time your next click so that your character performs a combo. Thats it. That is simply not innovative, but rather repettive after the first few battles.

Next comes the camera. Where to begin? None of the camera angels feel right and all of them have defects. The up close camera constantly gets caught, faces the wrong way or simply impossible to maneuver. The mid range camera is too far out, making you miss out on the graphics, while the even further out camera makes your character look like little more than an animated dot.

Next, traveling. Walking around in this game is problematic due to the camera, which gets caught.

Load times. Load times are ludicrous in length and ruin the feel of the game.

This game is simply not worth it, I gave it two stars for the decent graphics.

Customer Review: At Last: Shorter Loading Time!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've finished this game once, the loading time was painfully long - reading while waiting wasn't an option but necessity...

But now this horrible thing has been overcome by the Patch 1.1a :) Definitely shorter loading times!
Just go to the Witcher's official site and download the patch - play, make your decisions and bear the consequences!

Customer Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

This game is simply beautiful. While the requirements are steep and it might be necessary to turn the graphics down, they are still gorgeous. The combat is a world of fun, managing to achieve a fast pace without the repetition often found in rpgs and action games thanks to a frequent need to change stance. The story is involved, and although conversation and cinematic interludes are often awkward, they are very compelling and evocative overall, uniquely (in my experience) bringing out dark fantasy themes as well as a healthy sense of nordic-welsh heritage. The result is an rpg of high caliber and excellent composition. It makes me wonder if I've missed many treasures from eastern Europe because other companies can't afford to buy off the losers at gamespot and ign to give them coverage and reviews.

Customer Review: An RPG classic (annoyances removed with most recent patch)
Summary: 5 Stars

It has been a long time since I have played such an immersive, beautiful, and fun game. The Witcher has an amazing involving story that will keep you glued to your monitor; and while it tells that story, you'll have a blast playing it.
The graphics are very good, and while this is no Crysis, it is a beautiful game to watch. The art and the attention to detail is amazing and the game just feels alive. The sound is very adequate and in tone with the game.
In the gameplay department, this game excels. The combat system is fast and visceral, and while the main character can sometimes seem unresponsive, when everything goes as planned the action is so intense and fun that you forgive these annoyances. The magic system blends very well with the sword action and the alchemy adds a whole layer of tactics to the game.
Thankfully, the latest patch has solved one of the major gripes of this game: the loading times. The transitions are now quite fast.
About the censorship, believe me, it does not take anything important from the game, just a few nude drawings in some cards that you receive during the game (if you want to see them you can look around on the net), and one model of a monster (topless dryad). The dialogs are cut in all the english versions (but the subtitles can be restored by altering some game files). But if you must definitely have to have the uncensored version, the replacement files are floating around on the net, you just have to find them.
So there's no excuse not to get this great game. Give a try and have hours and hours of pure RPG fun!
