Customer Review: And I thought they couldn't make NWN any worse...
Summary: 1 Stars

As a devoted fan of Planescape: Torment, the Baldur's Gate series, and the Icewind Dale series, I had high hopes for Neverwinter Nights. Once I'd played that monstrosity, however, I was convinced that the franchise couldn't have taken a more egregious turn for the worse.

I was wrong.

With camera angles that have to be constantly repositioned, an incredibly constrained camera system (not being able to move the camera more than a short distance from your party, EVEN when the "free camera" setup is used), a restricted "group dynamic" (the group is forced to stay in one unit, to the point of everyone in the party following whoever is being directly controlled), and, worst of all, a dumbed-down combat system (automatic spellcasting, the inability to strategically and specifically utilize spells and abilities, etc), this is probably the most frustratingly oversimplified, "hack-and-slash", strategically *dumb* roleplaying game I have ever experienced.

Don't even get me started on the performance issues. On a 2.6ghz dual-core processor, 2gigs of RAM, and an 8800GTS video card, I couldn't raise the performance bar above "low" without extreme lag. A machine that runs the Crysis demo on medium settings can't even run NWN2 on low settings. That is truly horrid coding.

Avoid this title at all costs. Atari took a glorious Black Isle franchise and turned it into complete crap... and this title is even worse than its predecessor.

Atari just lost a customer. I'll never buy anything produced by them again... and I'm leery of buying any BioWare developed products at this point, as well.

Customer Review: You are the only hope for the forces of Neverwinter... or the shadows
Summary: 4 Stars

You begin as a harborman... You end as a hero (or villain)! This game pwns effectively every other game i have (like 50 of them at least)! begin the adventure in a world with amazing graphics, good story, and exciting combat. Create your character from scratch using the D&D? method. With new prestige classes. Meet various allies, including a dwarf who loves fighting, a sorcerer who is always throwing insults, and a... err... blade golem? the only problem is that it doesn't have an epic feature or some of the coolest prestige classes in d&d?.

Great game anyway though!

Customer Review: Decent Game for RPG Fans
Summary: 3 Stars

Having seen my fair share of RPG games, I would not rate this game among the top games in this genre. It is definetely better than its predecessor and the Icewind Dale in both gameplay and story, however it still can not match the complex storyline of Baldur's Gate (not to spoil it here, but the story is very alike Baldur's Gate 2). Although there seems to be some technical problems, none bores the player to quit the game. And there are actually some advancements as the spells in this game is much much potent and you can actually work your way through the game with only one warrior in the party. This stacks well with the 3rd edition rules and gives a better feeling of classic dungeons 'n dragons.
As you may have noticed by now, I have compared this game with Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. That is because it would be real unjust to compare it with the likes of Oblivion or Diablo as there is little alike in these games beside the common background and items. This game is best suited for hardcore FRP players who likes to play games with little resting and minimum of powerful artifacts and try to stay alive by the little stock of healing magic/potions. If you want to play this game in such a way and maybe on a harder difficulty, the fun may become surprisingly high. Be aware though, that this game is by all means real hack'n slash and you should not await a real FRP experience (if you would like to solve puzzles, that is).

Customer Review: Loved this Game
Summary: 5 Stars

Someone recommended this game to me at the beginning of the summer. I had never heard of it, but I saw it was made by the same people who had done Knights of the Old Republic II, so I decided to give it a try. The guide to creating a character was easy to use and I was off on my adventure. The tutorial was easy and straightforward, which is a great plus. I don't like wasting time figuring out how everything is supposed to work. I just want to get right to the action. I see that other people had problems early on with bugs and other issues, but I had none of these since I didn't play it until almost a year after it was released. I also have a fairly buff gaming rig, so there was no issues with that. The storyline was well-written and the characters were interesting and diverse. I have played through several times as different races and classes and never tired of the game. That is one of the surest signs for me of a great game. I wish I could say the same of the expansion pack...sigh.

Customer Review: Worst game product in a decade!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this just recently--against the tide of overwhelming negative reviews--and found it to be even worse than anticipated.

The copy protection is a known factor of unreliability, but it's not that that's crashing my system. I literally can't get out of the first door! I can go through the entire character generation sequence and opening sequence, but the game resets my system each time I attempt to leave the first room.

The almost endless procession of logos and the opening cut piece play just fine. The sound is okay. The art is splendid, but the response is sluggish.

I should add that I've just replayed Neverwinter 1 from start to finish on this same system without a hitch. I tried removing and reinstalling the game, being sure to apply all patches. Then, I removed it again and reinstalled with no patches. The result was always the same--the game crashes at the same spot right at the beginning.

After reading the many complaints online, I had low expectations, but I didn't expect that they would have shipped something completely unplayable!

I haven't seen anything this poor since the "golden" days of DOS!
