The graphics and range of weapons are great, but the newer the release the shorter and easier the game becomes. Is this supposed to be "progress?" COD World At War is by far the best game. The only reason to buy the Modern Warfare series is for the better graphics and the return of supposedly "killed" players. Does anyone have an iota of doubt that "Ghost" is Gaz reincarnated? There is no bonus game for sitting through the endless animated credits and the end obviously is a set-up for further games--will the villian be resurrected in the next game? Try not to use recycled landscapes in the next version too, please. It's easier than the first one. I give this one a C-.Customer Review: Mediocre gameplay

Okay so this will be a quick review on my thoughts about this game. I wont talk too much about the graphics because they are pretty good, not the best but not bad...(of course the game is a few years old though).
The game play is virtually the same as any other COD game, that being there is no real skill involved in playing the game. It is difficult don't get me wrong but it is very simplistic and requires hardly any thinking or tactics. There's not much to the game, you just simply walk down the unblocked routes offered to you shooting the bad guys as you go, then you get to the point where you are hit by waves and waves of oncoming bad guys which you just have to rush through to stop the respawning enemies.
Saying that I enjoyed the story and have to say that the best missions were the US Marines in Iraq (there weren't enough of these missions), those were cool missions! The missions have pretty good variety and the guard dogs are very frustrating! If you enjoyed the other COD games get this one, or if you want a little mindless FPS gaming then this will certainly be for you! Otherwise get yourself a copy of ARMA 2, now ARMA 2 is far from perfect but is certainly far more realistic, there is a lot more freedom and has much greater replay value with the excellent mission editor than any COD game! Also try Brothers in Arms Hells Highway, again far better than any of the COD games!

There really isn't much I can add that hasn't already been said, but I wanted to put my two cents in on this amazing experience nonetheless. While I'm not one of those who can play for days, or blow through a game in a few hours, I do love a good FPS, and military combat simulators in particular. I love the realistic look and unforgiving nature of games like GRAW, and COD4 just takes this to a whole new level.
When describing what makes this game so much better than the others, the word that comes to mind is FLUID. The action just flows all around you, just like a real combat scenario would. There is none of the pre-ordained feel of other games, where you stalk around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the enemy before they see you. In COD4, you are jumping into living, breathing battles that have already got a head of steam going, so the scene is never stale and passive. You must keep moving forward, physically taking control of the ground you just had a nasty firefight to obtain, and you never know when some enemy soldier may come running around the next corner at you, or be holed up nearby, just waiting for you to get careless. Grenades are flying, attack dogs are on the prowl, enemy soldiers are actively using cover, going for flanking positions--in short, this game brings the true chaos of war to your home screen. If your tastes are like mine, you can't help but be impressed as the scenes unfold, constantly being amazed at the fluid action that's present everywhere, just as it would be in real life.
As far as the look and sound, it just doesn't get much better. They really put a major effort into the graphics, and it is highly rewarding in practice. So many times you will find yourself marveling at how lifelike everything looks. One of the neat touches is the depth of field effect, where nearby objects and soldiers appear out of focus, while the area where you should be concentrating is nice and sharp--this is huge in adding to the realism, as your natural vision works the same way. The shadow effects are mind-blowing in their accuracy and authenticity. I have a newer quad-core system, but with an average graphics card, and it still played beautifully on the recommended settings. The sound is top-notch, with great effects and very natural-sounding voice acting. The voices in the AC-130 chapter are so spot-on, given confident soldiers removed from the brutality of close-in fighting--their banter will have you giggling at how natural it sounds. You put these graphics and this sound together with the breathtaking action, and you'll find it hard to stop playing such an engaging experience.
Yes, the single-player campaign is relatively short, but in this game it's a clear choice of quality over quantity. I'm one of the rare ones that only plays the solo portion, and even with the brevity, I believe you will still find it hard to top this experience. Would I like it to be longer? Absolutely, but I still wouldn't trade the opportunity to play this incredible game. This game really does raise the bar well above what has been, and makes me really look forward to the next wave of shooters. Buy it, play it...and be prepared to be impressed!

I've now played this game's Single-Player Campaign through more than once, and loved it. Like other titles in the Call of Duty series, it uses team-based play, with the computer "driving" your teammates. Modern Warfare continues in the tradition of the other titles, following one common storyline and putting you in charge of the major players in the story. However, this time around we get more structure to the missions, more life to the characters, and more depth to the story. You spend most of the game as new recruit 'Soap' MacTavish, but you also get to flash back to an earlier point in the story, play as your commanding officer, and learn more about him.
One odd departure from other games is that there are storyline sequences that are not exactly "playable", but neither are they cutscenes. You live a segment of the storyline through the eyes of the person going through it. These are short, so they don't frustrate, and what they do is heighten the drama. It's an interesting technique, and because it isn't overused, it works well here to keep the storyline going.
Another great pacing trick is that the storyline spans countries. It crosses continents and it puts you in more than one spot: one of my favorites was manning three guns using night-vision cameras aboard a large plane as it provides air support to your team on the ground.
Overall, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare graphics are very detailed, the environments feel authentic, and the sounds impressed me. One new wrinkle was the addition of dogs, which you have to melee if they get too close to you--fighting them off can be pretty startling and very deadly. There were some interesting graphics upgrades this time around too: more realistic blurred vision, heat waves blurring the air. Particle and dust effects that seemed alive with their own physics. Night vision also looked very convincing, and zooming in with the scope produced graphics just as sharp as if you were standing up-close. I also liked the dialogue and I really enjoyed the fact that my teammates seemed to be somewhat intelligent. There were some really neat goals in each mission, and I have fond memories of the adrenaline rush. I'm delighted that there will be a Modern Warfare 2.
