Video Game Reviews of Call of Duty 2Customer Review: Fun when it doesn't lock up the system Summary: 3 StarsThis game has an annoying tendency to lock up the sytem when it's booting up. Then, using ctrl-alt-del, it's hard to kill. I've tried killing all my running applications and disabling my virus scans before starting this program and it still locks up. I've been able to play it twice and had five unsuccessful starts. This one will soon be relegated to the back of the shelf, never to be seen again, if I can't make it run consistently. When it works, which has been rare, it's a great game.
Customer Review: Call of Duty 2--Intense Summary: 5 StarsAh, the old World War II combat simulator. As there are so many, reviewing is often strict to the max. However strict grading may be, though, Call of Duty 2 really deserves a mention. There are three main campaigns, Russian, British, and American. Sprinkled in through the game are several cinematic moments, following the Half-Life cutscene-in-game scheme. The gameplay is very intense and raw, especially with the extraordinary sound and graphics. The background is very realistic, and I've yet to see more realistic smoke. By far, the most intense is the American campaign, especially with Hill 400. The British campaign has the vehicle moments, as well as a fair amount of downtime, and the Russian campaign probably has the most "wow" moments (i.e. cowering in a trench while German tanks thunder above your head, or the less exciting using potatoes as grenades). As good as the game may be, there are problems. I found the tank missions (only 2 of them) to be too short and too fast. Also the health, in where you may get hit twenty or so consecutive times, and then blood seeps into the screen, and you hear yourself panting. In five seconds, if you remain unhit, you regenerate all your health. Though it remedies the annoyance of searching for health packs and getting killed in a place without them, you have to admit that health regeneration is not the most realistic portrayal. It's offset, however, by the rest of the positive things, and the fact that they chose other battles rather than Omaha Beach and the like. So hats off, and remember, "Aim down your sights, Vassili, you'll be more accurate that way!"
Customer Review: Game could make pacifists of us all Summary: 5 StarsIf everyone was forced to play this game then only the insane would ever advocate for war or even join the military. I haven't played COD 1 in a while, but from my memory this game blows it out of the water. I didn't buy COD2 before because I wasn't impressed with the demo. Well, that battle was probably the worst one in the bunch along with with one weak tank battle.
This is way harder than COD1 but in a fair and manageable way. There aren't any easy missions like going through a sewer and shooting someone down the hall. Its much, much, more interesting than COD1. Its starts off at with several easy but fun missions and gets more intense as the game progresses, until you hear yourself saying "I ain't going out there, I ain't goin out there!!!!! This is a fun, fun game, very intense.
Customer Review: Extremely Well Done Summary: 5 StarsThis is probably the best first person war game I have ever played - Medal of Honor being the second.
Let me put it this way: the game is so intense and realistic, I needed to take a break in between missions to get my head clear. In realtime, you have to think, organize, dodge, plan, run, throw smoke grenades, hide, move on with the squad - I mean - when you have to take a hill - you feel as though you are really there. You get a concept of what our guys went through to capture a town - it's mind blowing. Before you hit "Start Mission", you need to take a deep breath and prepare yourself mentally for it. It's that good.
You need a reasonably high end system for this if you want to experience what I did (AMD 3200XP 256 Video, 1 GB of RAM). I am going to be very sorry when the game ends. One of the best.
Customer Review: Really awesome FPS Summary: 4 StarsThis game is AWESOME. The firefights and graphics are top-of-the-line. The single player campaigns are ok, but cod's were better. My favorite army to fight in is the Russian, and I was pleased to learn that Pointe Du Hoc was in the American campaign. The multyplyer mode is lots of fun. My only 2 regrets about single player is the ending, where some colonel says he'll give you a promotion, and the fact that the number of bullets in the Thompsen sub-machine gun's magazine has gone from 30 to 20 bullets. it seems i'm constantly reloading. This is the best WW11 shooter I have.
